LLegacy
Hi, This is my first post on the forum, I recently bought a 2004 Legacy 3.0R Auto. It's a tidy car, with lots of history and is converted to run on lpg. A few days ago the engine management light came on with a transmission fault (P1844 Fluid Pressure Sensor E). It was driving fine, no strange noises or problems changing gear up or down. I took it to a local gearbox specialist just to get it checked out, he dropped the transmission oil plan and discovered that gear oil from the diff had made it's way into the gearbox. He believes this is causing the error code. He is quoting around £2000 to rebuild the existing one, I'm weighing up a rebuild versus getting a used gearbox fitted for around £750-£1000. I really like the car, and want to keep it for a long time. I've spoken to a few Subaru specialists who have advised against rebuilding the existing one, their experiences of rebuilt gearboxes is not good. I'm inclined to go with the advice of the Subaru specialists, but I was wondering if anyone on the forum has had similar issues and how they went about resolving? Would really appreciate some advice on this! Thanks.
tom_gr7
I'd take it to another independent specialist for a second opinion mate. It never hurts to be cautious. Try this seller on eBay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/impartsb46 I remember seeing a few 3.0 gearboxes on there a while back. check this guy too. - http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/gradeasubaru here's one for 2006 - 09 outback, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Subaru-Outback-3-0-AUTO-gearbox-New-2006-2009-Model-Year-TG5C7CPDAB-/201284046087?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2edd76cd07 No idea if it would fit your 2004 though.
