Hi All,

The gearbox on my 2004 XT had been whining for a few years now, advice given to me by a Subaru Specialist was 'These things can whine for years, lets wait and see what happens...'

Well happen it certainly did, the gearbox disintegrated while doing 70mph on the Motorway, upshot is, my gearbox is finished and is beyond repair...

My mechanic is now finding it extremely difficult to locate a suitable spare to replace it with, he has had the car 2 months now and we do not seem any further ahead on locating one. 

Any advice on what exact type I am looking for (WRX ?) and does anybody know where I may be able to locate one in the UK?

There should be a gearbox code on the side of the housing, pull that and anything with the same code will fit. I'm not the best man to recomended 'boxes but that's the basics and I'm sure someone will be along in a while to give more advice

Thanks for the replies guys, I have found a very nice man at Ignition Motorsport in Newbury who is going to get me out of the shtook :o)
