Top Gear stars James May, Richard Hammond and sacked Jeremy Clarkson have taken shots at Chris Evans on Twitter.

Earlier today, Evans confirmed he's shooting a secret Top Gear film months after denying he will take over from Clarkson.

The Radio DJ and car enthusiast revealed that he will be working on project for the BBC show this week - and added "we're going to see how it goes".

Following the story breaking today, Clarkson, May and Hammond posted similar tweets within seconds of each other.

Clarkson wrote: "Next week, I'm doing a pilot Radio 2 breakfast show with an independent production company. We'll see how it goes."

Hammond said: "Next week I'm doing a pilot of The Two Show on Fridays with an independent production company. We'll see how it goes."

While May tweeted: "I'm working on a new TV idea, with an independent production company, called TFI Thursday. We'll see how it goes."

The projects the trio claimed to be planning - Radio 2 breakfast show, TFI Thursday, and the Two Show - are variations of shows Evans is associated with.

As you can see they all signed off 'we'll see how it goes', seemingly mocking Evans' turn of phrase.

All the tweets were retweeted by Evans - leading some to suggest all four could be in on the gag.

The DJ, who has been among the favourites to take over from Jeremy Clarkson on the BBC show, said he will be filming a "Top Gear sequence" with an independent production company on Tuesday.

Asked by presenter Tim Lovejoy on Channel 4's Sunday Brunch whether he had started to present Top Gear yet, Evans said: "Not started yet, but we are doing a secret Top Gear film on Tuesday."

However, BBC insiders have told Mirror Online that they know nothing about Evans' plans.

The future of the motoring series was thrown into the air earlier this year when Clarkson was suspended after assaulting producer Oisin Tymon.

During Clarkson's suspension earlier this year, the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show presenter said rumours that he's been approached to replace Clarkson were false.

"This is not true. Not only is it's not true - it's absolute nonsense," he said.

Andy Wilman, Top Gear's former executive producer - and an old school friend of Clarkson - has left the show, which sparked rumours he was joining up with all three men to make an alternative programme, with Netflix and ITV among the broadcasters rumoured to be in the running to screen it.

yeah passionate but a prick

Personally i think Chris Evans would do a good job , he's pretty clued up and passionate about cars , just depends who he was teamed up with

I think he would do ok but I'm not a huge fan of his, I'd also still not watch it just because of the BBC handling the whole thing the way they did. So I'll be boycotting it no matter who they have :) I just don't think it will ever be the same either.

First episode will get massive views because everyone will be wanting to see what it's like the rest of the series will be a flop when people realise it's just not top gear without those 3 muppets presenting it :)

Full of win for a top gear Netflix series though :)

I agree I'd be tempted to watch the first episode but my stubbiness will stop me :) And I agree if it's netflix which seems to be or ITV they have just made themselves a big money show :)
