Knocking sound from front when turning.

Featured Replies

Subaru legacy estate  2003/4 MT 5speed,  When turning right or left into parking space when car is fully up to temp , knocking sound as wheels go round smooth then knock about 3 times per wheel revolution, Forward and backward, question could this be CV joints or Viscious Coupling , she has covered 119K  and not ben driven by a boy racer.  sound is coming from front as you can feel it in the steering wheel and from wheel side if you place hand on side wall.

Question, could both CVs tend to fail together,   Gearbox oil is clear when on stick, drained fully, murky in apearence and very dark, will change this today ?

Any thoughts ? John

Power steering belt might need replacing.

Hi, only happens when car is hot, turning R or L into carpark space, checked CV,s boots ok, no visual movement up down ?, Is there any oher checks you could do on them. ?  John

Hi John. What you describe is typical of worn CV joints. I'm not sure if you should be able to feel any free play when they start to knock.
