OBD II Compliant?

I recently purcased a fault code reader an autel maxiscan ms509 a £40 job off Amazon, its read codes on my mums clio and uncles toyota previa but not connecting to the subaru.

Is my 1997 forester OBDII complaint, it has an occasional check engine light and id like to be able to find out what it is, i suspect 02 sensor but id like to be sure.

I hate iphone after owning one then moving over to Samsung :D

 

It's like Evo and Subaru :D

 

As for the problem only thing I can think is either your OBD is older 1.5 or faulty can't see it being older. Unless the reader really does hate your car. Bet you it's that  front bumper :P

I had a look on eBay the iphone obd yoke is down to under £30 now on eBay, not bad value.
I dont mind android or IOS, as long as it gets emials, plays youtube and has an internet browser im happy, the only reason i went for an ipod is that the radio in my 406 can control ipods through the steering wheels controls.

 

It might be a fuse or bad wire going to the obd port, I've heard of the earth for the port going bad on some cars and the reader unable to find any codes. 

 

The front bumper might be a bit controversial, although my first car looked much much worse:

In my defence for buying a yellow car, it was a stupendously cheap damage repairable £1100 in 2007 for a 2004 car with 21k miles, and i always planned to paint the car black, but the head gasket failed at 28k, and after replacing the interior, the door and wing, and rear boot glass i didnt want to spend any more on it.

Wow sorry if you was on top gear right  now I would be WTF! :)  your car choice don't add up to me lol  ;)

 

But if you made money on that car I take it all back :)

 

As for the Ios v's Android

 

I have nothing wrong with the iphone hardware it's amazing. Just ashame they right it off to make suckers buy the next thing they chuck out. And with Samsung phone I could stream live football, as with the iphone was a no go :(

It was indeed a panda 1.1 active (about 50bhp), great wee car drove like a go-cart and cost very little to run,

it was traded in against a 2002 clio 1.2 16v although its a nicer looking car it was !Removed! to drive and guzzled petrol, although i had fixed the panda and even though money was spent on it i still made £500.

 

Your right there about the IOS thing, too much money for a new iphone, but once a newer model comes out the old one is worthless, although i have bought both my iphones used after the newer model came out.

My last post I was drunk. I give myself a pat on the back ;)

 

There the car's I like if your not keeping them little money earners, only ever had 2 that I made money on. Escort made £200 and Beemer I only made £50 on it time I had spent money doing repairs. But was selling to get another car I wanted so was happy with that.

 

And my iphone is now in the draw with a broken screen backing hanging off and I'm not sure if it even powers up it's been there that long lol.

I connected the wires under the dash and counted the blinking of the check engine light

 

I think its saying 22 which is the knock sensor, prices range from £10 for a chinese one to £330

Thats what im thinking, the forester is used at the weekends and it still works although just occasionally the rev limiter goes down to about 2000 rpm when the light is on.

Its also the sort of part if it fails its not going to cause a load of destruction like a cheap timing belt.

Agreed if it had been like you say something that if it fails is a full engine rebuild I wouldn't even go near it. And I only ever buy OEM for my car, but for that saving and can still be used why you wait seem almost silly not to I think :)

For the 406 i just purchased a Gates timing belt and water pump kit, its not genuine peugeot but i think Gates make decent enough stuff to trust.

One reassuring thing is the box actually has very good well written instalation instructions.

 

Whereas the Chinese knock sensor may have directly translated instructions, although they are always good for a laugh :D

I have started to buy Bluefin stuff after doing some research on the company other then that I have never really gone for anything other. But I have bought some stuff from china and know exactly what you mean :D

I was pleasantly surprised when the knock sensor arrived today, took the old one out and:

Who needs to check the resistance with a multimeter, this is much better proof the part is Fecked :D

 

The new one went straight into place, the electrical plug fitted correctly and the car started, i drove it flat out and it spluttered to a stop, added some petrol :ph34r:  and it continued, no check engine light, no funny intermittent limp mode its cured for £10.

Holy crap did I slip into a time warp 3 weeks went by quick ;)

And yep looks as good as dead to me, how are your hand's so clean ? I only have to look at mine and I look like I've been touching up homeless people :D

happy to hear it all fitted ok my faith in cheap parts is restored ;) oh and it's Blue print not fin my bad that I have started to use. So will soon be seeing the off roading tracks you leave behind then

It arrived 2 weeks earlier, maybe thats to cover them incase stuff arives here late

 

My hands clean, never really thought of it, i always wear gloves when working on cars, swarfega is also good stuff, and the knock sensor isnt really in a mucky place.

 

Ah blue print, that sounds more familiar i think my air and diesel filter in the 406 are blue print.

 

When i had the forester out in the field today the ground was a bit damp and the handling was much different, in the corners it was very tail happy which i did not expect, although it was also revving a lot more than it used to, 4000rpm was the limit before, now it was going into the redline with no problem.

I do use Swarfega and I really should buy myself a box of gloves I only changed some break pads today and sorted out a sticky piston on the break caliper and there still black now after 3 washes :)

 

And with the Blueprint I started off with the oil filters on 2 changes ago then fuel filter now today break pads but there just for temporary use. I would recommend the stuff more so after using and reading up on it.

 

And your making me jealous talking of being able to redline it around open fields :) But I agree I'm shocked at it being tail happy it will slip more that I know more power goes to the rear. Did the guy who had it before change and ratio on the car i.e might have had say 80% power to the rear and only 20% to the front ratio

10 quid fix - that is a result - I used a blue print interior air filter - only issue was due to the design being quite a thin plastic frame and the box it came in are not designed to go through the courier system - it arrived broken twice. liberal amounts of superglue used to sort though.

 

I think though when it comes to doing oil and filter change I will be looking at the HKS offering due to the claimed high flow capability as I would also like to upgrade the oil pump.

I only used the Blueprint as a temp filter but when I came to change it again was happy with it so just got myself another :)

But if your going to upgrade the pump I agree HKS might be the better choice like you say.
