Steering wheel off centre?

Featured Replies

I'm picking up a 2010 Outback (2.0 diesel) tomorrow - my first Subaru. The steering wheel is off centre a bit - about 10 degrees, but I know it's going to annoy me. I looked on youtube - and it looks pretty straightforward to sort - as long as you can get the clips holding the horn cap off. I'm guessing that there's an airbag on the steering wheel, but the youtuber didn't seem to mention that - is that right? Do I need to worry about that?

I've always has really mechanical vehicles, so this is a big step. It's got an electric handbrake FFS.

Cheers guys,

If you are taking the airbag off disconnect the battery and leave it for 5mins this will stop it from potentially blowing up in your face 👍

Thanks - there was something about that in the vid as well. So you reckon that it's just a sealed unit - leave it for 5 minutes, and treat it like any other bit of car.? Tidy.

In the bad old days you touched airbags at your peril.

If you do disconnect and reconnect the airbag, will you get a light on the dashboard grizzling about it? I had that on a BMW once.

Any tips for getting the clips undone, above what this guy is doing?

Yes its all one unit and if you plug it back in with the battery still disconnected it shouldn't bring the light on as the ecu won't have registered that it has been unplugged, the spring clips that hold it on can be a little **** to get away so have a swear jar to hand 🤣
