Model Differences

Hi ya’ll.

I’m New to the world of Scoobies and have just bought and done the clutch on my first one!

It’s A 2008 Impreza RX Hatchback.

I was wondering if anyone could inform me as to the differences between the Inpreza Models.

e.g RX as opposed to GX

Wotcha and welcome - the GX is an older impreza but with the same NA engine configuration you have.

your model series

RX 2.0 Normally aspirated engine

WRX 2.5 turbo engine, stiffer springs and thicker ARB's

WRX STI 2.5 turbo engine, more power, bigger hubs, turbo, intercooler, different body (Wide) compared to RX / WRX

Awesome, thanks for the info.

What about diffs? It’s my understanding that the WRX has a centre LSD, the STI has LSD’s all round and all other models are open. Is this correct?

It depends on the part number, they do vary - for example the WRX S has the R180 rear diff the same as the STI but others have have an R160. Also dependent on rear diff also means a potentially different diff in the gearbox.

Thanks for the help…Interesting stuff.

It’ll all get ripped apart and rebuilt eventually so I’ll se whats inside soon enough. But for now, time to get to know the beast on the roads.

feel free to start a build / project thread to track your progress.

Dependent on your driving style you will find the RX soft with excessive roll. consider suspension and ARB upgrade.

I also found the brakes give great feel but they do fade on a spirited drive

Hahaa yep…the first thing I noticed was that the suspension was too soft and centre of gravity a little high for my liking.

I’ve gotten rather used to driving The Emperor (1970 Beetle with 200 Horses, wishbone suspension and rack ‘n’ pinion steering)
