My 06 2.0l Forester with 155000km has died on me twice now. The first time was a couple of months ago in winter (I live in New Zealand) after I was pushing it on a dirt road for maybe half an hour then 5 minutes into driving on a sealed road and the second was today just driving on sealed road with no extreme temperature or driving. When the issue occurs my check engine light comes on and I loose almost all control of my revs. I might get a slight increase but it keeps dropping until I pull over. After turning the car off and on again immediately, my starter motor will just try and try to get the engine going. After I lift the bonnet and look for leaks or anything visible etc for a few minutes I turn the car on again and it starts fine. No issues after as far as I'm aware. Both times the temperature gauge has shown my usual temperature.

Any thoughts on what's wrong or what steps I should take next?

Cheers,

Lachie

Yeah should be in the history, if not then will be tiral an error if a mechanic cant get the fault to replicate to understand it.
