OutbackOJ
Hi All. I love my 2011 2.0D Outback. Over the last few month though its thrown up a few issues. I left it into a Subaru garage and asked for them to investigate and let me know what needed done before doing any work. The potential bill is coming in at around £3k ... which I cant justify. See the list below. Would love your comments on this and any suggested cheaper ways to fix. Engine temp light was flashing red - There was a hairline split in a rubber hosepipe - They have Resolved this by shortening the pipe and refitting (NICE!). There are a couple of cracks in the radiator - £262 (ex vat and labour) Steering making a rhythmical knocking when turning sometimes. When this happens the steering gets very heavy. Have been advised that there is a 'very slight minor issue' with the steering assembly and it will eventually need replaced at a cost of £2k (ex vat and labour) - WTF A/C pulley had a loose plate that was rattling around. Advised it was likely the AC compressor that had seized and the clutch had failed. £638 (ex vat and labour) - eeshhhh Hub Bearing - £214 (ex vat and labour) - I have a friend who can do this for me so not concerned on cost and labour here Wing Mirror - motor in the passenger side wing mirror is stuck on. Ive had to remove the fuse to stop it from making noise. This has meant that both wing mirrors are now flapping a bit and constantly need adjusted manually. Was advised that these come in different parts that make up the whole and that it would cost £400 to replace the entire thing. All of this is mounting up and scaring me a little. I'm no car expert, although I love cars. I don't really know how to price up these parts, or exactly what parts I'm looking for. So approaching a scrap yard or looking on eBay is impossible without being sure Im looking at the right thing. Any tips for this would be much appreciated too. Hoping someone can help with some advice or experience, preferably without ripping me apart for knowing feck all.
