Evening everyone 

 

Need to change to an automatic with an electronic handbrake. My wife has a bad shoulder and she really struggles to change gear and use the handbrake. 

We have a 2018 Diesel Forester manual which has only done 5300 miles (it's also for sale if any of you are interested) it's looked after and we had intended keeping it for a few more years. 

Tried a Forester petrol hybrid auto and wasn't impressed it felt very skittish compared to our diesel which feels really planted. Decided to try an Outback and was very impressed with the ride quality and general feeling of less agriculture and more luxury over the Forester.

However my wife quite likes sticking the toe in and giving the forester some heat. She's a very competent driver and the diesel forester goes well. 

This is my dilemma, the outback is a 2022 limited 2.5 petrol auto and I'm afraid she's eventually going to hate it from a sticking your toe in point of view. Desperate to stay with Subaru as they are fantastic cars, different and capable. Suppose I'm looking for a wee bit of affirmation that this isn't a huge mistake. 

Anyone else made the transition?

I've just this day brought home my 5th Outback (although my last 2 cars were a Volvo XC 60 & an Audi A6 allroad 3.0 V6 tdi)

I suppose i fell off the Wagon for a few years😄

New one's an SE Premium 2.0 diesel.

There really is no substitute!

Bought a Field, not brand new but no regrets. Really nice car to drive did think about the premium however being a Scotsman didn't fancy the high road tax, but there again the memory seats would have been nice. 

Looking forward to lots of snow ❄️

The 7th gen Outback 2.5 n/a is going to feel slower than your turbo diesel in most situations I would guess. Whether it actually is will be a close call but the 7th gen Outback I recently drove certainly did't feel particularly spritely  I had a back to back test drive last month. A late 6th gen 21 plate 2.5 premium and a 24 plate 7th gen touring. The touring was barely run in and it felt like someone had dropped an anchor out the back. The throttle mapping was ridiculously lazy and spoilt the whole experience. The 6th gen would have got my vote even though there was only £5.5k difference between them!

Gotta love the original Legacy Outback, (not my actual car in the photo but identical)  the best colour combo as well. Diesel`s a bit of a plodder but it has all the bells & whistles, some

that I`ve yet to find.

Just to settle any argument, and I know there are a few out there. Having had the A6 allroad for the past 4 years, and a wonderful drive

it was, fully loaded and with the air suspension just wafted along. Off road they`re no match for the Subaru in any way, I actually found 

it a bit disappointing after all the hype from the Audi fan boys.

+1 to that ...
3.0 EZ30D was a subaru gem, shame they didn't put it in the foresters  (does fit fairly easily).
Biggest disappointment was lack of nice manual gearbox option .
Very versatile vehicle which could do a lot and they were cheap on the used market for a pretty solid reliable wagon, if they had  some waxoil rust treatment in early years they last real well as mechanically and electronically the parts were proper quality manufacture unlike the 5h1te you buying new today .
