Tuning/Tuners feedback

Recommended Posts

taken from my other post but retweeked.

Upon arrival to the Scooby clinic my car decided to go into 3cyl, and
with no explanation of why, the ECU was checked and so was the maf
sensor and both where found to be running absolutely spot on.

Fiddling with coil pack checking for a spark one of the lads pushed a
wire on the injectors and suddenly its back to 4cyl and then back to 3,
a quick check and it was found to be the wires of the injector plug
coming free, a plug was quickly sourced and fitted.

Everything else was given the once over and then the go ahead was given for it to be put on the DYNO :) .

I then had to wait a further Hour for Pat to turn up as he was still in bed, even though i took a day off and was there for the designated time of 9am, but when he did
more problems arose, My Ecu decided to commit suicide and no longer
work at the time there was no explanation as to why, this was later found to be Pats wire to the obd port had caused the map to go on wrong and fry my PPP ecu. , after an argument at to who was to blame and them trying to charge me £200 for another ECU ,another was sourced
and quickly fitted, but then Pat couldn't log into the ECU to map it,
an error was traced to his OBD cable (reason for blowing the first) and
away we went.

A few runs in the boost seemed to peak just under 1 bar, around 9-10
psi, the wastegate pill was checked and then changed and away we went
again, it was then Suspected to be a shoddy turbo that wouldn't make anymore
than 10 psi of boost
however saying that it still made 232 bhp and 240 lb of torque, I have
been advised to get a billet turbo as this engine is built for 450+ , what they didnt check was whether the boost solenoid was even connected in the first place.

The car was immediately taken to martin at subaru services and he found the issue straight away. Upon taking it back i was told it would be free of charge so agreed, the car immediately went to 20+ psi, so was never the turbo which is what they told me,  all was redeemed until i came to get my car back and they wouldnt release it to me without paying them.

They make you sign a contract upon arrival before you have any work done that states you will pay whatever is quoted at the end. AVOID!!!!!!

well the car is in bits at the moment but i will defo not be using them again, they would just say that the owner should have checked before bringing it in for a map, but it wouldnt be the first time they have been took to court.

This is what worries me anything to do mechanically I'm fine with but mapping /electrical I' have not a clue lol what happened to the good old days were you fiddled with the carbs lol

Well I could recommend myself self as a Tuner, but I left that for you all to discover. :)

Tuning a turbo or some tuner talking about you need special capability is pure crap. Let say it is marketing myth to highlight to you something special that don't exist.

Any good tuner can discover what can work or don't work on your car. Many times are there issues that prevents you from making that power or response. You just have to know or feel what there are.

Example, customer not making the boost. High wastegate is running. Customer reports he can hear his turbo very loud. Now there turbo is making the boost, but the car is not showing it. You either have a bit leak or mechanical issues. Other symptoms will say more.

My apologies I wasn't trying to over look you mate I was just recommending him with being in the UK

I will have to have a proper look at how your tunes works I did have a quick read that you send them to the customer but not knowing enough about tuning side of things other than handing lots of cash over for licences and the map to be done I'm pretty ignorant towards it really :D

When I get sorted a bit more I might have a go via your setup :)

I think Scooby clinic billet turbos have quite a good rep as there tried and tested turbos sold in the states branded as blouch cant speak from experience about their mechanics as ive never had any dealings with them myself .   id love one of these turbos to be honest but don't know what the full cost would be once imported and cant afford the price of the s.c 42 in the uk.

back to the remote mapping I assume that you use a open source software and its only available for newage (my 2001 onwards) I don't know much about the info newage ecus give back in the form of logs but , how do you monitor afr ,egt and knock remotely ?

Through logging.

Have some fun reading some of the forums - http://www.xtremeracingtuning.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=40

Depending on the model subaru, there are tell tail signs from the wrx/sti 2001-2007 of afr tuning for the AFR using the stock sensor. EGT are the same.

For stage 2 or race tuning from XRT, customers are require to have the necessary tools as highlighted in my documentation shown by the link.

Yes I like the blouch too. Will be putting in one for this 2008 JDM WRX here - http://www.xtremeracingtuning.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=468

We will use the Dom 3.0XTR TwinScroll or even better, may use a Steamspeed one I will design, since I am doing a group buy for the STX-67 using the Garret GTX2867R style like billet wheel.

Kamak seems to be a bigger company than Blouch, but we will see how that goes.

The remaps I've had done in the uk the mapper live maps whilst you drive and im unsure how much info the esl software gives (whether it gives egt , afr and knock ) but they always use a probe in the exhaust the, lap top and det cans wired to the inlet . Don't mean to sound critical of what you do just curious to the differences .

scooby clinic seem to offer a wider range over here sc 36 to sc50 (in about 7 stages ) and lateral performance have the franchise for the turbo dynamics md series turbos (billet garret based units) .

Unsure about kamak turbos as most are journal bearing based on the td series mitsubishi turbo's . I'm only put off by the lack of proven power / reviews and that they don't spool as quickly and garret roller bearing based turbo's.

The ecu give you everything, depending on the model. let me show you a replay of some stuff.

Red is pinging

There are much more logging parameters, but below is what I am interested in

http://www.xtremeracingtuning.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=501

Download the opensource software and see.

ON the turbo side, yes true to the non BB. If persons are looking for BB and want to pay for the price, sure yes the Blouch is prefect.
