just want one that plugs into car socket and gives a read out of fault code number so that i can look it up to give a clue as to what it 

requires.

got a samsung galxie phone

Search the play store for the torque app. You'll need an elm32 blue tooth adaptor will cost about 5 quid from ebay good for under a tenner failing that the standalone handhelds are about 30-40 quid
