Hi Guys, im new to the wonderful world of running a subaru impreza, i have an issue regarding an 07 hawkeye 2.5WRX.  as im driving i get a slight smell of burnt oil, more so if im heavy footed on the throttle. i have checked the coolant level and the oil cap and so far seems ok. i have been told impreza's burn oil more than most cars, am i worrying for nothing or should i be doing anything to minimise damage to the car. thannks in advance for any help provided.

Hi mate welcome to S.O.C

I'd just keep an eye on the coolant but if you can't see any signs of oil anywhere around the engine or the turbo and have no overheating issue and it's driving fine I'd say it's just 1st time ownership nerves ;) I still do it always listening for noises and signs of anything amiss :)

Weeping rocker cover or turbo oil feed maybe ?

Thanks for the reply. I have noticed I have lost all my oil from under the car. The belly of the engine and parts are dripping with oil. Any suggestions as to the cause.

Regards

When you say oil from under the car you mean it's lost it all from the sump or it's loosing it all from the underside ?

When you dip the stick is there any left ?

Does your car have the undertray attached may be pooling on there and dripping out. If it does is it coming from the front of the tray or the rear of it ?

There isn't anything left in the engine. When I check the dipstick it shows no oil. The underside across the tray and everywhere is covered in oil. There is a small tray under the engine however it looks like it's everywhere. I would find it hard to establish an actual leak without trying to clean off the oil and incerting more. Regards

Id contact whoever you bought the car from and tell them somethings amiss,

Thats not right at all for it to be loosing all otd oil means theres a big hole crack in the block. Or a major seal missing amd when it's running its just pumping it out

How long have you owned the car? If it's not long take it back ASAP.

Has it recently been serviced, if it has I'd say some has not done the oil filter/sump plug back up properly. If it was serviced recently take it back to who ever did it.

Otherwise take it to a garage or Subaru specialist ASAP and get them to have a look at it.

Oh thats not good at all mate, I'm with the others if you have just bought it get it back straight away if everything's covered in oil somethings gone major wrong some where you could clean it off to find the problem but I'd just get it back for a repair or money back :(

Hi mate. We'll good news. It was only the oil filter. Had a small puncture hole in it so when the engine was running it was spitting it out. Thanks for your help and assistance. Regards.

Haha I nearly said have you checked the filter is on tight to make a seal didn't think about it having a hole in. Anyway as Pete said easy fix that just a shame you have a bit of a clean up operation on your hands now :D
