  2. think your right there, after a good clean they look worse, will look out for new shells and conrod bearings...but will be put on back burner
  3. well ive split the engine and front left piston bearing shells are gone,so full set of con rod bearings are needed,,,,not sure about the crank bearings....heres a few pictures of crank bearings....any ideas if they are still good to use? there was no play in crank before strip down
  4. started to have a look at old engine,,front left piston knocking from big end bearings, this is the only piston thats has the knock.......fingers crossed it has not touched the crank, hopefully its all good
  5. fixed hard water pipe,no more leaking coolant, owner is very very happy.engine sits nicely at 650rpm ish, very smooth and responsive....engine swap done.hopefully back on mine soon 😀
  6. engine in car and running very well,,,no knocking, mint 😀....but do have minor water leak coming from hard pipe going to lower matrix inlet.i do have one from other engine to replace it
  7. replacement engine now sorted,,,drilled out in stages,8mm all the way thru and tap m20 thread down 17mm deep...just need to change over induction system
  8. i know what is.....EGR control valve and pipe going to head from manifold can the replacement engine be converted to take egr pipe? what size is it and what drill bit size would i need? thanks nic
  9. help with engine change middle of changing engines due to worn crank, knocking!,owner has brought me a an engine to fit,,,,this picture shows original engine,,what is that thing in red circle? the replacement engine has not got one or hole to fit too thanks for now
  10. silver gx given back to owner with everything done and electrics fixed 😀
  11. well ive been busy with other scoobies,,,,sept2021 was a gx wagon auto and now jan2022 gx saloon manual.cant wait for mine to get done
  12. not a lot has happened..had a wash before winter sets in,front strut brace fitted.still rolls freely......but i have been sorting friends bugeye wagon exhaust out,,,cat was nicked! so re-exhausting the car, just front 6pin lambda to get now then sorted
  13. hopefully it will be done and saved, considering these cars are 15-20years old,jap cars dont do well over here......dont think subaru`s where built to last this long maybe a decade tops?
  14. nothing to report, car on back burner,,,friends wont welding doing there motors....but have bought front floor strenghtner bolts underneath but its blue😮 its goner have to go green😁
  15. hi welcome........if its good and very clean leave it standard, but if its a rusty motor then mod it,clean impreza over 15years are hard to find, they dont do well in this country cos of climate and road salt during winter, most of the parts are bolt on,but the body is another story altogether, preserve the body best that you can
  16. wears hat and boots does he,,drives a horse 🤣
  17. rusty monday 😀 rust i can do....but lateral bolt is goner be a bugger to get out
  18. old ways are the best in my opinion 😀
  19. cars dont switch OFF anymore they just go into standby mode which still uses battery power...old cars, when you switch off they are OFF now power to anything....might be worse with electric car with all the goodies on it
  20. scooby had a wash today
  21. more new parts have come,,,,genuine lateral bolts, washers and nuts from icp
  22. yeah those vitesse and herald are bit funny on handling,,its the rear cross-axle leaf spring layouts (crap idea) bit more research and design would of helped it alot first triumph i bought was 2000 mk1 estate which needed welding in all areas it was 1966 made, gunmetal grey and blue interior it handled very well once tuned up independent rear axle, rear wheel drive manual overdrive(when it worked) was lovely then sold it on as it was far to big for me and the misses so bought browny my dolomite1300,in fact now come to think of it i had had triumphs for 14years ,before triumphs i was a ford man..cortina mk2 1600e ratlook and ruff n ready.......but now impreza has come along and i love it cant wait to start work on it..get that flat-4 feeling going
  23. to detect rod or big end knock i use a long screwdriver and place in areas and listen thru the handle ofcoarse put your ear on screwdriver handle,,,good old way to detect problems in engine
  24. cant wait to drive it more then 40-50metres from my neighbour house to mine..it felt tight as a drum...i bought it from him cos it needs welding to rear end and drivers sill area.ive owned triumphs for over 10 years now so welding is no problem at all
