  1. Well I was happily moving my 2022 eboxer into the car port from the driveway when suddenly an orange symbol appeared on the dashboard marked GPF with the information icon. I waded through the owners manual and learnt the following. The car is fitted with a GPF and just like a diesel it may require regeneration if the car is driven in urban conditions a lot in low temperatures. Personally I'd no idea that petrol cars had these or that the last generaton of the XV were fitted with these ,but subsequently learnt this is apparently a mandatory device under EU regulations since 2022. Now here's the thing. To conduct the regeneration you have to drive the car in manual gear mode without using cruise control at between 2000 and 2500 revs at a speed above 60kph for about 30 minutes and periodically take your foot off the accelerator. I live just off the M5 motorway so drove it on there . After 15 miles and about 20 minutes the warning light went out. I understand if it won't clear it then becomes a dealer job to force a regeneration. I searched Youtube and could find very little information about the GPF. I did however find a video of a guy with a 2024 Kia who had encountered the same issue. In his case he had to drive 80 kilometres to get his car to complete the regeneration so I feel very relieved mine only took 20 minutes. Would I have bought my Subaru if I had realised this was going to be an iussue. Well I bought a hybrid to avoid diesels with a DPF and it would have been nice to know I might have issues in the winter with short journeys. By the way once the regeneration had finished I noticed that the performance of the car improved dramatically. I only use 'branded' petrol and every two or three tankfuls refuel with Shell V power. Hope this information is of use.
  2. My previous 2019 XV petrol had the 3 recalls you mention and I checked for recalls on the eboxer before purchase . No recalls mentioned which seems correct as the suspension recall and 2nd coil recall were done in 2021 on my previous car and having just looked at a list of recalls for XV the affected cars were manufactured before the 1st October 2019 so don't understand why your car was subject of recall. Have you got the certificates showing the recall actions were complete ?
  3. How experienced is your dealer? Might be worth ringing my Dealer Simpsons of Highworth 01793762234. They have been Subaru Dealers since Adam was a boy so may be able to advise.
  4. The problem won't be the traction battery which has a 100,000 mile 8 year warranty but the accessory battery (not the stop/start battery). Subaru factory accessory batteries are renowned for being poor quality -will quickly deteriorate if the car is left unused for a long while. I had exactly the same problem on my 69 plate xv petrol and broke down on the 2nd day with it. Dealer replaced the battery with a different make and all was well until I sold it 3 weeks ago replacing it with my 2022 Xv hybrid which had been sat for a year at the Dealership (were asking too much money for it). I mentioned I wasn't happy about the battery and a new one was fitted by the dealer (Simpsons of Highworth) before I took delivery. I love Subaru and I think the build quality is better than the 4 Lexus I previusly owned. In respect of Tidgy's comment about the traction battery remember this is basically the same system as fitted to a Toyota Prius and look how many old Prius are still around. In fact having owned 4 Lexus hybrids I know how good the Toyota hybrid system is. Remember the Subaru is a petrol design with the hybrid added.
  5. Well I've now had my eboxer for 2 days. Beautifully prepared by the dealer and because I was concerned that there might be a 12 volt battery issue as the car had been there for some time they replaced the 12 volt battery that powers all the ancilleries with a new one. The difference in the performance and driveability is amazing. My car is a 2022 model so has the revised suspension . It is running currently on Bridgestone Dueler Summer tyres, but I just don't like them. They never felt very secure to me especially on a wet road. I've had them on my last XV (replaced with Crossclimates within a week) and 2 Lexus previously and I don't think they are a particularly great product. I've ordered a set of Michelin crossclimate 2's in 102v rating (same as last xv) and they're being fitted on Monday by my local independent tyre Dealer (£600 fitted). Some people might think it is crazy to ditch a set of tyres which have only done 8,500 miles but I jwould rather enjoy the car riding on decent all season rubber. The big difference I notice with the new car is how smooth the cvt changes are and also the car is nowhere near as loud when you floor the throttle.
  6. Well I bit the bullet and purchased a 2022 xv eboxer premium to replace my 2019 xv SE. In addition to the wonderful deal I managed to get next years service thrown in to boot. Picking the car up hopefully on Wednesday.
  7. I'm going to try a 2022 XV e boxer tomorrow to replace my 2019 XV 2.0 SE. I understand from the dealer that the mpg meter in the car isn't sophisticated to cope with the electrical input. Fortunnately I always us an app on my phone so will be interested to see how it pans out if I decide to purchse. The car I am intending to buy is a premium with only 8,000 miles the price to change is extremely tempting and works out at my car having only lost just over £3,000 in 3 years and 26,000 miles. With a big service due next month I thought the £740 might better be used in the purchase of another car especially as I was told last service it might need rear brakes at £600 . Last service and MOT was £1200 as front brake pads and discs were changed.`
  8. Had my XV serviced today and MOT'd at Simpsons in Swindon. The Service (48000 miles) and MOT was over £600 and front discs and pads added another £500. Total came to £11178. As always service was excellent and I had use of an XV hybrid for the day. Must say that having previously owned 4 Lexus the maintenance costs seem much heavier on the Subaru. Still a friend was quoted £1200 by an Audi dealer recently for front discs and pads so I mustn't grumble. By the way the car has covered 33,000 miles but of course the service shedule is based on both age and mileage.
  9. Good choice. Having moved downwards from a 2017 Lexus RX450h Premier to the Subaru I'm well happy with the car which is better for negotiating Cotswold lanes and supermarket car parks. I've found my car has better fuel consumption if I use a branded rather than Supermarket petrol (and at the moment is same price). Town driving is what hits my mpg -around 30mpg checked tankful to tankful. On a tank of mixed driving I'm around 36mpg despite the computer being into the forties. When I bought my car I couldn't find a premier and I do miss the leather seats. Overall though it is a great car and I would strongly recommend fitting a set of Michelin Cross Climate tyres . As soon as I bought my car I fitted them and they are so good in the wet and cold. The only downside is the location of dealers. The nearest and best one for me is Simpsons at Swindon (I bought the car from Unity in Coventry). Enjoy!

  11. Not a lot of help here but last week when we had snow in the Cotswolds my XV was superb. A couple of times on Icy hills my Michelin Cross Climates started to lose traction so I engaged 'x mode' and it was fantastic how the power was apportioned between the wheels to maintain traction. I would totally agree that having decent all season or winter tyres is more important than the 4 wheel drive . Well done Subaru!
  12. Well a letter from Subaru today telling me that my car is subject to an urgent recall for a component replacement as they believe a component in the electric parking brake might fail and the car move. Car now booked in at Simpsons Swindon for repair. Apparently half an hour's work.
  13. Well I've just noticed a white line running across the top of the lcd screen in the main display. It is within the unit and I wonder if anyone else has the same. Car is due for service next month so will speak with dealer before then. The line runs from above the home button to where it says DAB in the radio display

  15. If the metalwork is only suffering from paint transference then that may buff out. In respect of the bumper then in the past I've had some excellent results from 'chipsaway'.
  16. Well on Saturday my drivers side wiper blade failed. I thought there was a quick temporary fix as when my car underwent recall the dealer did a free winter check which included a pair of wiper blades which they put in the car. Unfortunately when I went to fit them Saturday I found they had plenty of fittings but not one for my car. Ringing around and googling failed to locate any blades locally. I then did some research which may help people here. The fitting and size of both blades is identical to both the Lexus NX300 2014 on and the Toyota CHR. I rang a local motor factor who didn't have XV blades listed. I supplied him with a registration number for a Toyota CHR gleaned from Autotrader and he ordered me a pair of blades for first thing Monday . They are a perfect fit (Bosch) and the package confirmed that a Lexus NX uses the same pair of blades. Sadly they cost me £40, but as it rained later on Monday it was a distress purchase that was needed on the day. Subsequently I have found blades at Lexus Direct for £26 a pair so it is worth speaking to your local Lexus /Toyota dealer for price comparison.
  17. They are 'Technik Brand. 2 wipers for the front. Once I find a decent dealer I tend to stick with them . I prefer family owned garages generally as they rely on a loyal private customer base. The fiat Garage we use fro my wife's car we have used for 12 years and bought 2 cars from them. The same guy has owned ther business for 30+ years and they rely on rpeat business. The owner buys cars from Fiat closed Auction and always buys high spec immaculatre cars with very low miles. Our current 500 has full maroon leather interior, parking sensors as well as the ultra rare pearlescent whitre paint which was a £900 extra. With regards to Subaru I will travel the distance for servicing as Simpsons clearly haver the experience with the brand and whilst there I witnessed some excellent customer care in respect of another customer who had a very sick older model where they had replaced a camshaft sensor which didn't cure a problem so they put the old one back on and refunded him the cost of the part.
  18. Just an update for all of you who are requiring the suspension check recall. When I purchased my car in June when the battery was replaced I asked them to check for a knock in the suspension. This was the supplying dealer in the Midlands. They told me they had checked the car and everything was in order. I drove it until Monday with that knock believing everything was fine. Following the visit to Simpsons- where they tightened the bolts subject to the recall, there is now no knocking anywhere in the suspension ...... I know where the car will be going in future for servicing!
  19. I took car to Simpsons at Swindon this afternoon. I was very impressed with the service I received there. As soon as I walked in the door they knew who I was and took the car straight into the workshop. An hour and a hlaf later the recalll work was completed together with the free winter check. A pair of new wiper blades on the back seat (not fitted as they said the Suaru supplied ones are inferior quality) Bottle of windscreen washer fluid, air freshener. They also stuck some plastic valve caps on to rpelace the alloy ones I'd fitted as they said they were difficult to remove (alloy ones returned). Overall a very good experience and I'll be using them for my servicing.

  21. Well yesterday I was just turning off the engine when a warning came up telling me the access key battery was low. So I bought a new battery and replaced it. This morning I used the other fob when to my surprise the same warning message appeared. Well I changed the battery in the second fob. The next thing I'm wondering is did the batteries both really to be replaced within 24 hours or has the car developed a problem?
  22. So my car was booked in Monday for 2 urgent safety related recalls by Subaru. This was done nearly a month ago. Lunchtime today I received a call from Simpsons Subaru Swindon to say the work can't be done as Subaru UK haven't got the required parts. So now I am on a list of customers to be contacted when the parts available. Hopefully I won't break down or have a suspension failure in the meantime.
  23. My car is a late 2019 and the coil pack issue is a follow on from an earlier ECM recall. The winter check can be done at any dealer and that is what I am doing in fact .
  24. Was in the throes of arranging my free winter check when the postman arrived with not one but two missives of joy from Subaru. The car has 2 urgent recalls. One for loose rear stabiliser bolts and the second to replace the coil packs. Both to be done ASAP. Car is now booked in at Simpsons in Swindon on 6th December for all the work to be done.
