  1. Oh well I've ordered the part from Aird Subaru near Inverness and I guess I'm just going to find my own technique. I've currently got the car raised on ramps at the rear end which meant I could see the culprit and catch the drips. I've disconnected the battery and taken the fuel pump fuse out of the engine bay fuse box, so now time to tackle the job. After some consideration I think I will risk letting the car roll down off the ramps,(with me sitting at the wheel ,hopefully stopping before I reach the very close back wall of the garage and then lift it up on axle stands. This will I hope not only enable me to take off the nearside rear wheel but also shut the garage doors!. Yes, it's a small garage and if a South- easterly gale blows then it's a no go with the doors wide open. I'll try and post some pictures and let you know how I get on. If you don't hear from me again then I've failed and bought another car!.
  2. Hi Larks , Thanks very much for this info. I've got the same problem on my 2011 Outback. You say you ripped it out but how?. It looks very tight Did you have to disassemble anything like suspension ,wishbone and drive shaft , or did you use long spanners bars, and brute strength!. Many thanks for you post but please help me understand how you ripped it out. I need to do the same!.
  3. Best Wishes to a fellow Legacy driver.Looks like a very nice car I'm sure you won't regret it.However one word of warning -tackle the rust ASAP!.I didn't and now I've had to buy another car till I can work out what to do and is it worth it,very sad.On the bright side my slightly newer car is a ...Subaru Outback!.Happy motoring!
  4. Thanks Linx .I seached for weeks before I got some real help from your stuning post!.
  5. Don't I know it!. My Legacy is 20 this year and the Volvo 24!.
  6. Hi, Thanks for the answers to my questions. The last advisory said "front crossmember corroded" but like a fool I kept puting of repairs til the next MOT was due. It is only the lower radiator bracket that's badly rusted so perhap's I'll try to get it repaired and then Mot'ed.Irony is that I bought a Volvo v70 as a daily whilst I was going to put the Subaru back to rights. However the Volvo has done nothing but have parts fail one after another, so I've e spent all my time fixing that "thing" instead of my beloved Subaru!.
  7. Oh and are all Subaru's ,one size fits all when it comes to these ,what the Americans call ,"slam panels"?.Thanks
  8. Did you ever get an answer to your question about the radiator support bracket?.I've got a Legacy with the same problem. The first time I noticed this I repaired it with the same method you've suggested and covered it up again.Five MOT's later there is even less metal and I joined this site to look for answers .Is this bracket even testsed for MOT or is it dare I say structual!.If anyone knows plesae let me know.
