  1. Anglesey or Llangrannog in Wales for us usually, either in a cottage or camping. Did the west coast of Scotland last August, near Gaerlochhead and it was ok, nice scenery and all that, but too wet for my liking! We drove over from Germany where the temperature was pushing 40 degrees (I kid you not, it gets very hot here in the summer) to less than half that temperature and rain! Epic scenery though, and plenty of walking if you like that sort of thing and no phone signal for the most part. Even took a drive to the Mull Of Kintyre - it was a bit breezy on the beach there to say the least. I love the UK (and Northern Europe too), very underrated places to holiday. Whole the sheep are off to the Maldives, I'll be in Wales: having said that, if I had the money...
  2. But without the intense heat!
  3. We usually go to Llangrannog in West Wales - it's great place but don't tell anyone or they'll all go there! But living in the Fatherland it's a bit of a long trek to get there so we're going to Bergen ann Zee on the Dutch coast, which is just up from Amsterdam. We went there a few years ago too and it's a tiny little place with a huge sandy beach and sand dunes, just like British beaches. But without the union jack shorts and bulldog tattoos! And with ice cream parlours and cafes. http://bergenaanzee.com/nl-nl/home/
  4. No logo's I've noticed on the centre caps, but the exhaust is definitely Prodrive as its stamped on the tailpipe, and the pipe between the intercooler and the inlet manifold is Prodrive. Where is the ecu in these, and I'll check it out. And deffo no certificate was handed over to me. And even worse, the snow has now all gone! Nothing is ever easy!
  5. I've got the Prodrive exhaust on mine - it has the awesome burble sound, which I love, and the dogs can hear it from inside the house and are always waiting at the door when I get in! Go for the burble.
  6. My wife was doing a three point turn when she scrapped the front bumper against a wooden fence panel - she then blamed it on the kids who were on the back seat arguing with each other and distracting her, and nothing at all to do with her driving!
  7. I do love those wheels as well, except when I had to buy 4 new tyres! Its now got a nice set of Hankooks on it and I'm €550 lighter. I see what you mean about the mirrors though, but because I know they're red I didn't even click. I didn't get any Prodrive paperwork with the car but number 2 owner said it had the kit fitted, but I don't know if that's just because it has the exhaust and induction pipe on it. Apart from I think it's really fast and it pulls like a train to well over a ton (love these autobahns!), are there any other things on the car that will give the Prodrive thing away? I'm also sure I saw on the Prodrive website that they don't do these upgrades for private cars anymore. Anyway, it's been snowing over night here so I'll be doing my brakes another time, and instead I'll be, er, testing the AWD system...
  8. I'd love to send them off, but it live in Germany and it gets driven daily. And anyway, I really like fixing brakes...
  9. I'm rebuilding the callipers on my XT with some nice new shiny stainless steel pistons from Godspeed, and my question is about the guide pins - does the one with the rubber bit on the end go at the top or bottom of the bracket? Tokico 2 pot callipers at the front, single pot at the rear. I've tried Google and it seems to be a 50/50 split, along with using some very special grease on the pins.
  10. Thanks for the likes guys. Hopefully over the weekend I shall mostly bed rebuilding my seized callipers with a shiny stainless steel set of pistons I got from Godspeed - then it will stop as well as it looks!
  11. I do like my auto's now though! The wife wants to get herself a more economical car and when she does, I get the Subaru back - result! But as I work 2 minutes away, she has a 20 mile autobahn trek then she wins the keys. I might look out for the next time people are going to the 'Ring and see if I can get down there again. I used to live a lot closer, within an hours drive but now I'm a good couple of hours away, so that might be a good excuse to get there again. I don't understand the wing mirror thing, it's just what came with the car? It's a UK car as far as I know; the original owner wanted an all singing fire breathing WRX but his wife said no, it had to be a Forester or nothing. What he didn't tell her was that when he ordered it, he also added the Prodrive package to the specs. The 2nd owner who I got it off, bought it off the same dealer who sold it originally as it was part ex'd against a newer motor, hence they told him the story. Is it because it's red or is it a different shape?
  12. Good idea, but then I'd have to buy her a bike! She has a classic Mini (1275 automatic) but since we got the Subaru she doesn't really like driving it. She can only drive automatics, not through any medical condition or anything, she just can't be bothered with gears and only took her test in an auto! I have to say, that I now like driving auto's but I still haven't found an Impreza WRX STI with an auto box. Yet. I should also add, I have taken it round the Nurburgring, wallowing like a mattress and with crap brakes - proper good fun, and I only got overtaken by Porsche 911 GT2's and 4's. About 10 of them...
  13. Hi guys, Just doing the honourable thing and introducing myself before I start asking many, many questions! I have a 2004 EJ205 Forester XT with (allegedly) a Prodrive kit fitted. I say allegedly because the only paperwork I got from the previous owner was the handbook, but it has a Prodrive exhaust and induction kit fitted, and he told me the first owner (I'm the third) had it fitted. All I know is, it's a flying machine, and it's an automatic too. I've had it about 2 years now and put around 40,000 miles on it in that time, and it still makes me smile when I boot it and as I'm currently living and working in Germany with their lovely unrestricted autobahns, it would be rude not to! It does drink petrol like there's no tomorrow though when I do, especially when I'm cruising at 110! I drove back to the UK in the summer, late for the ferry as per usual, and set the cruise control at 120 mph - 185 miles later and I had to fill up again.. The brakes are knackered, it wallows like a mattress and guzzles fuel - it's my favourite ever car. And there's usually a fight between me and the wife as to who gets to drive it, it's that good. Now to attempt to attach a pic of the beast looking shiny... Shane
