The sound is a low rumble / drone usually from about 40mph upwards. Mine was a front left , it would go quiet when turning left, as the bearing became loaded. In terms of changing all 4, NO!, why change them if they aint broke . If your mechanically minded, and have access to jacks etc, and a good puller, you could do them yourself. to determine if its a front L or R bearing which has failed, find a roundabout which will let you make left and right hand turns, drive round the roundabout at speed, and see which way makes the drone / rumble go away , if turning L makes it silent, its your left bearing and vice versa for the right. a good indy garage should be able to do one for a reasonable price, if i can find my disc, i will give you the book time Mart

Just purchased some new hoops today ... Original fit are Yokohama geolandar G900's at around £110 - £130 each online brings that down to any where between £95 -£150 (lol) The specs for the Yoka are 215/55/17 94 V ECB - Fuel / Wet braking/ Noise -71Db Interestingly these are classed as a midrange tyre. Looking at what is currently on the outback it would appear that brand loyalty went southbound some time ago Fronts are Nexen N 6000's which is a 94 W rating One rear is a standard Geolandar The other rear is a Pace PC70 98W The Nexen's look like they were superseded some time ago, so it was search for an alternative I narrowed it down to 3 Nexen N'fera which is a 98W coded CBC and has an XL sidewall - £51 Khumo Ecsta SPT KU31 which is a 94W coded CAC but no reinforced sidewall - £57 Falken Ziex ZE914 which is coded CBB and has a MFS sidewall - £64 Given i allready have Nexen's on the front, and they have lasted me 2 years with the milelage i cover and returned approx 26mpg and being the the non stiffened sidewall version, Iv'e gone with the stiffened C rated option. My next choise whould have been the Khumo's folowed by the Falkens Mart

If you get an OBDII cable or bluetooth dongle ( easiest) from the bay, and the torque app, Set them up, then look at the lambda setting & fuel settings, then run the car and observe the readings, then clear the CEL using the app. Drive the car again until it fails, then look at the readings, You should see what is returning the error message. If the car has stood, it may be crap on the lamda sensor, or the cat has become contaminated with unburnt fuel. Try a tank of cataclean and see what values are returned. Do you have an exhaust blow at all? that can also upset the fueling / lambda values. Check vacuum lines, if any are perished, they too will have an effect. Mart

Just done my 3.0R front hub, no issues with CC just a straight swap, a missing stud shouldnt be an issue, 20-23mpg is i have to say realistic for a 2.5, I only get 20-30 from my 3.0 and 30 is driving like miss daisy ;) Any problems from the LPG side will not show any diagnostic errors from the Subaru side, its a stand alone system . you would need to get this checked via an LPG installer. Not cheap for the rear hub unit £100-175 depending on year and engine size.. alterantive is to have the hub rebuilt with new bearings... its about an Hours labour + parts so factor again £100 ex V Fronts are a news hub and arm -- ouch or just a bearing hub at £111 depending on year Are you sure its the rears? mart

Check there actually wired up lol I have the opposite, the buggers go off constantly,,,, why ?? because some plum bust one and filled the hole with a grommet. As the unit dosent get a reading from all the sensors, it thinks one is returning a closed signal and screams its head off . Ive cut the wire to to the sounder temporarily Mart

Take it for a test drive and drive it fairly hard ... Suspension should be clonk free if its minor clonking over general stuff its either the drop links or arbs gearbox should be smooth on up and down shifts, and should be quick going into gear from standing .. give the engine some good boots to see if blue smoke out the back ... they do burn oil. mine gone from top of the dipstick to near the low mark in 11K.. If you drive it hard ... expect 240 from a tank.. you can get 330 if your a miser lol the engine should be silent, just some ticking from the injectors and mebby some pully noises if the info dispolay in the centre cubby goes , expect to pay around £80-150 for a fix or replacement, or you can do an ebay search. see my post on alterntive displays Mart
