  1. Never really liked the look of the bright silver fender emblem on my 2106 STi and as soon as I discovered another option was available, I ordered a pair from eBay. Initially, they sent me WRX ones in error () but the correct ones finally turned up this morning. Pretty straightforward swap requiring a hairdryer and some cleaning spirit. The original: The replacement: First setp is to heat up the fited emblem with a hairdryer. This is to soften the double sided tape securing it to the fender. You can then gently prise the emblem off - starting at the edge closest to to door: Next, thoroughly clean the mounting surface to ensure the new tape sticks securely. I used some spirit to remove and grease/residue etc. Peel off the tape backing on the replacement emblem: And push firmly into place. There are two small tabs on teh emblem which line up with locating holes to ensure correct alignment.: As with most things, it's a question of personal taste. I think these black emblems totally change the look for the better and at around NZ$25 a pair (plus shipping) one of the cheaper 'mods' out there Gary
  2. Legamax As per you tube vid in earlier post
  3. Very nice indded. Local delaer has a new black STi in the showroom at the moment just like yours and it looks very smart (not as nice as white though )
  4. Nice. Assuming a 2014/5 MY judging by the head unit? Gary
  5. Not mine. Unless I've become extremely deaf in my old age
  6. Catback system does NOT require a re-map. Just fit and go. Nameless has a good rep amongst the US Scooby owners though, as Tidgy poiints out, importing yourself (let along shipping costs) will be costly. Miltek system is nice, but much more expensive than HKS.
  7. Fitted an HKS Legamax cat back to mine a couple of weeks ago. Perfect balance between a good Boxer performance sound and not being intrusive... Gary
  8. Gotta love those UK roads
  9. About to do the same thing on my 2016 STi (when the inesrts arrive). Have a look on eBay as they can be found for a lot less money than in the above link. As for removal - heat. They are stuck on with double sided tape and you need to heat up the tape to allow the trim to be pulled off. There are some SBS vids on you tube such as -
  10. Bought one a couple of weeks ago for when we have our 5 month old grandson to transport around http://www.babycity.co.nz/maxi-cosi-vello-65-car-seat-black.html Upper side of the range as far as price is concerned but you don't want to take short cuts with these. Easy to swap between the STi and the wife's Jeep Cherokee and uses ISOFIX points as well as the seat belt in the rear facing configuration. Has standard anchor mounts for when they are older and seat can face forwards. He's obviously too young at the moment to utilise the drink bottle holders
  11. All done. Have to say that this was extremely easy to do thanks to the quality and workmanship of the parts. Looking forward to the paint being better protected as a result Gary
  12. Don't you just love it when the courier driver brings a nice little present... Will watch.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnpvZgK00dg .... again before hopefully fitting them this arvo :)
  13. Swapped my STi this morning for one of these... Only temporarily Took the STi into the dealer to have a front splitter fitted. They lent me the Outback for the 2 hours the job took. Pretty happy with the result...
  14. And we're done. Huge shout out to Pit Stop in Westgate who did the swap in well under an hour for just $100. 1/3 of what I was quoted elsewhere! https://youtu.be/znhKTRz15UY Very happy with the result. Installer was very impressed with quality of parts and everything fitted absolutely perfectly. Sound is certainly better than stock but not loud enough to make you look like a complete !Removed! when driving around or upset the neighbours when setting off for work early in the morning! Job done
  15. As much as I am loving my 2016 STi after a couple of months of ownership, the one thing I'm a little disappointed with is the lack of that Boxer growl - especially with the 2.5 still having unequal length headers. After searching around and a little advice from my local Subaru dealer, I went out and bought this today... HKS Legamax Premium catback system and booked in first thing tomorrow morning to be fitted.
  16. Personalised plates have become pretty expensive over the last few years here in NZ. About 15 years ago I paid around $300 for 220 GTI for my 220 GTi. They are now around $1000 (just bought my wife one for her birthday (FL3UR) - my current one cost a little under that a couple of years ago. Fortunately transferring to another car (originally on a Legacy) is cheap.. GB (my initials) in NZ www.kiwiplates.co.nz is where you go and while SCOOBY isn't available, SCOO8Y is

  18. Anyone one with a 2015/16 STi for a more direct comparison?
  19. I recall that insurance in the UK was pretty expensive at times for high performance cars - especially Subbies. I don't think it's too bad here in NZ even if it's not compulsary (we have something called ACC here and it's rare to sue). I'm curious to know how it compares these days. I'm paying the equivalent of around £500 a year fully comp - though being an old git probably helps Gary
  20. Thank guys. Sorry, no pics of any cars prior to my last one... Pretty uninspiring to look at - but at least it went well Gary
  21. Unlikely to be the clutch then. Remember that as soon as you start modding, the factory warranty will become void. I think that some cat back exhausts are okay and don't void the warranty, but anything else will.
  22. A plastic burning smell isn't normal to be honest - even on a new car.
  23. Hopefully it will be the clutch - though don't recommend doing that too often as you'll wear it out really quickly! I'd ask the dealer to investigate and then take it out for another test before committing to a purchase. It may well be covered by warranty but it's the inconvenience if it needs to go back in. I would be very concerned by an oil gasket leak on such a new vehicle though. Agree with you totally about the reviews. Sure, the STi isn't a comfortable long range cruiser - get yourself something else it that's what you need. This is a real driver's car and will never fail to put a smile on your face. Let us know how you get on. Gary
  24. Exactly
  25. Thanks guys. I took the no cost no spoiler option as I like the idea of a certain amount of anominity. The spoiler really shouts 'Look at me!" and can attract unwanted attention - especially the local constabulary Gary
