  1. As you may have seen in my other threads, i am looking for my first Scooby. Up to now, blobeye has been my choice. Mainly due to the older 2.0 engine having the better reputation for reliability. What i want to know is if the 2.5 is really that bad and that much of a risk? I can pick up a much lower mileage hawkeye for the same money as a good blob eye.
  2. Been and had another look. Car seems to drive fairly well and i think the girlfriend has been converted. Obviously this car is priced for top money, reflective of the condition and 1 owner, but there was a few things making me hesitant to put deposit down without taking time to think about it. I noticed the steering wheel was way out of line, probably just needs a 4 wheel alignment, but who knows if there's another reason for it. Secondly the biting point on the clutch was very very high, it's done 90k on original clutch i believe, so it's gonna need a clutch. He's gonna do the cam belt water pump and pulleys etc... Is it worth the top money they are asking? I'm not sure. What i will say is they are very nice people, very knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. If they have a car your interested in i would say defo go give them a chance.
  3. Well I'm going to go with missus today and have a test drive. If it feels right and i can stomach the running costs, i will put deposit down. Going to think I'm a right time waster if not, will be my third visit! End of day i work hard for my money tho, if I'm concerned it's the wrong decision then i won't go for it.
  4. I would be losing 2k in value instantly should i need to trade it in. I doubt i would get much more than 4 private. They seem to be basing the high price on the condition, 1 owner and ppp
  5. You got a link to the thread for this member? Would be curious to see which one he bought. I was there last week and he sold a few. Apparently sold 2 today.
  6. Those figures seem pretty high. I do quite a lot of short journeys these days, rarely over ten miles in one go. Real urban driving. Nipping to work, shops etc.... It's my luck i will end up getting 15mpg Guessing if u boot it your looking at what... 10mpg lol.
  7. Probably doesn't help that i wrote a car off on that same road in my first few years of driving. Lol bad for black ice. If test drive goes well and i can come to a deal with regards to replacing belt pulleys and pump... Then i should probably get the car. Fuel costs scare me lol. I got about 28mpg in my petrol a3, i do less miles these days tho.
  8. That's brilliant to know. What scares me is paying top money, but if you look at part ex prices right now that car would fetch just over 3.5k, that's a big margin and loss. They probably paid nearer 5 for it tho. I've met two blokes who work there, don't know which one is Jason, probably the tall one. His mate took me for a spin the other day, thought he was going to kill me. Showed me what the car can do tho.
  9. I've seen it in person and bodywork is good. One small little tiny dent on the front wing right on the crease, no change of repair. Jct say they have been selling impreza for 17 years now. The price is defo top end money, I'm having a proper test drive tomorrow, i will clarify about the pulleys. How much we talking for a water pump? Like i said it's top top money they want on account for it been a 1 owner car in fairly good physical nick.
  10. I've been looking at buying one of my childhood dream cars, Subaru impreza blobeye. I want a standard wrx that hasn't been abused or modified. There really doesn't seem to be many around I was gonna set a budget of 5k but there's one locally at a dealer who sells only imprezas. He has done a deal with me for 6100 quid. http://www.jctcars.co.uk/used-cars/subaru-impreza-2-0-wrx-4dr-rotherham-201611219958721 One owner, 05 plate, ppp, loads of service history, good condition (to my eyes, tho it had just been polished). It's due the cam belt so he said they will change that as part of sale. Am i getting ripped off? I'm taking out a loan to buy this and selling my car private. Anyone have experience with the dealer in question?
  11. Does seem expensive. They have been selling Subaru's for 17 years, you would think their pricing would be good I'm desperate to go out and buy one but I need to try and hold back. If insurance wasn't crazy I would love to run two cars and use the Scooby as a fun and bad weather car. As it happens I'm looking at up to 1300 to insure a WRX, that's 27 year old, 4 years licence, 4 years no claims. I paid 1000 for my Audi a3 this year
  12. I've caught the impreza bug and will be buying one at some point this year. Someone advised I sign up here, sit back and learn. Plan is to wait for a decent example of a WRX to come up for private sale. I've had enough of giving my money to second hand car dealers. I went to view one yesterday, 05 WRX with ppp, 90k on clock, service history, 1 owner. Dealers asking 6.3k and offered me 3.6k trade in on my Audi a3 which I purchased in September for 6k, even we buy any car would give me over 4k for it. Anyway I look toward to contributing to your forum.
