Outlawsaffa1982
Hi All, So im completely new to forced induction, being a VAG man for many years i recently picked up my forester S, The guy i got it off i dont think had a clue what he was talking about... he recons that it has a PPP ecu and the BHP is sitting at 250 bhp, yet im only boosting 1 Bar, he also said it had the TD04 on it. So a few questions... 1.what should the TD04 be boosting? 2.what upgrades should i be looking at if i wanted to get the car into the 300bhp bracket (its my weekend toy :) ) I think thats a good starting point! many thanks in advance!! stants
Hello welcome, glad your enjoying the foz, Td04 good for around 270 maybe a hybrid one will get to 300 with supporting mods. 1bar with 250bhp sounds about right, Depends if the ecu has been mapped. Is it a UK car ? For 300bhp I'd be looking at td05 new age top mount i/c full decat & remap, bigger injectors if it's an import. Get some pics up too [emoji3]
Mr B
Is this UK model or JDM import. The UK model was about 170hp the JDM was around 240hp as the engine was almost the same spec as a WRX. TD04 was not standard on either. 300hp on the JDM is quite easy, on the uk version not worth the cost really in my opinion but with a remapable ecu the uk could probably run around 1.2 - 1.3 bar without silly money being spent & have respectable output. Would need be very healthy engine. You best having look at turbo & ecu etc just to confirm what you currently got & get idea what may of been fiddled about with.
Steveuk260.Esq
Mr B is correct. UK had 177bhp while jdm had more. Mind you even with 177 they can shift to surprise of other drivers around. It may only have 177bhp but it has more torque.
Outlawsaffa1982
i think i have been done up like a kipper then... Its a UK car not import. the spec that was on the add as follows: Running 250bhp PPP prodrive ecu WRX intercooler STI throttle body TD04 turbo 4 pot front breaks Walbro 225 fuel pump Double decat ss exhaust system Forge dump valve So is this engine not the same as the WRX then? its an EJ20 so whats the difference? Mr B
Off top of my head I think standard boost on uk s turbo was 0.50 or 0.55bar I would expect it at 1bar be about 230hp but all depends exactly how cheap it been done & what other support mods added. I would look at some of those items to see exactly what you got, have a look a ecu too as if prodrive it will be labelled. Wouldn't be surprised it simply a 1bar mod with no real supporting ecu work. You need do some investigating to see exactly how well you done or been done. If any work looks dodgy you would be wise give it a run on a 4 wheel dyno to check fueling ignition etc as if these not close to perfect it will soon be fubar. stants
Obviously the 4 pots will be easiest to see along with the bigger i/c. Maybe they have popped a prodrive ecu in from a done. Essentially it is the same as a wrx engine just a few slight differences,
Outlawsaffa1982
i can defo see the 4 pots on the front there is no question there. the exhaust i can see a cat on the down pipe but thats it to the back box, i was told that there may be another one on the up pipe? will need to get under the car to have a look. ill pull the ecu out tomorrow and check that out too! So with regard to injectors what should i be looking for? i have looked on eBay but there are so many and i havent a scooby what im looking at. would it also be a good idea to change the fuel rail at the same time to a high flow? Also on the note of eBay... turbos, i found the one on the link below and many like it. Are they safe tou use? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/for-Subaru-Impreza-WRX-STI-EJ20-EJ25-TD05-20G-Turbo-Turbocharger-/221415553787?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item338d653afb

You would be better with a asthmatic monkey blowing in your intake pipe over that. If you got a td04 & it in good order stick with it as matches to the the uk s turbo engine well . Rick 2014
Ive a full decat on mine and a td04 going for a map in January.Ive also got the 6 puk clutch in place for future mods.Im very interested in this ecu set up you have though.Do you have the evidence to say that's what the ecu its claimed it is.The EJ205 is the same as the WRX engine but the forester is surposed to have milder cams yet ive not seen any truth in that I think it could be hear say. Rick 2014
I also think in my opinion that these Forester turbos will become rare as well because there isn't exactly loads around like the impreza, wrx, sti is there
stants
As for cats, just looks like it has a sports cat then, There shouldn't be one in the up pipe only new age cars came with pre cats in the up pipe, UK injectors should be yellow ? 440cc ones where as the imports had grey 380's Do you have any paperwork with the car, prodrive tuned cars came with a certificate, a dyno printout would help to confirm what's been done but if there isn't one I'd say he's guessing at max bhp. The fuel rail should be good enough to cope, I'd have a look at how long it's been in as warlord pumps seem to have gone a bit down hill in quality recently and a few failures have occured. Outlawsaffa1982
sorry bud, im confused now... so what injectors do i need to get yellow or grey?
stants
If it's a UK car you should have yellow ones which will be fine
Rick 2014
You will have yellow injectors 440cc ones
