`I own a 2004 Subaru Outback RN.  It has a "built in" speed warning device which appears to be incorporated into the Sat Nav system.

As the vehicle approaches a posted speed limit a beeping sound is emitted that gets louder and faster according to your road speed above the posted limit. If you approach the limit at the correct speed it remains silent but warns you as above if you are over. There is no reference to the system in any of the information booklets supplied with the vehicle including the Sat Nav booklet.

Do any of you know if this is a standard system fitted by Subaru or an after market system. If the latter do you know where it can be obtained as I am thinking of purchasing another vehicle and would very much like this system fitted to it?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Not sure mate hopefully one of the other owners knows does sound a bit after market to me if it does it without the Satnav on, but if you're using  the satnav at the time I'd say it's just in the software.

I don't seem to have that on my 2004 Outback 3.0 Rn. What version of the satnav software are you running? I'm on the 2012 DVD.

I have run the 2006 version and then subsequently a later version which I bought from Ebay and was probably pirated. I do not think that it is on the software/DVD otherwise there would surely be some reference to it in the Sat Nav booklet. Nothing comes up on the Sat Nav screen, just an audible warning.

Yes, I suspect it may well be some aftermarket device.

Can't help with yours but I have an iPhone with copilot satnav on it. I've got all the voice commands turned off except for speed cameras...which you can set to warn you at various distancies...so pretty much does the same thing

I've just spotted in the Outback accessory catalogue that Subaru did offer the RoadAngel as an optional accessory. So it may well have been an "official' modification.

Thanks for all of your interest, but it is still a mystery!!!
