markat Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Hi all, Anyone got a clockspring for a 1998 JDM WRX? My horn's stopped working and I reckon this is the problem. I have no relay click when pressing the horn and have already replaced the horn unit itself. Here's hoping as it's MOT time soon. Would an option be to have the horn off a switch instead or would that not pass an MOT? Weird as the airbag light is not on. Cheers Mark.
Scooby Pete Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I once used a doorbell button for my horn on a beetle :) never got it MOT'd with it though.
Jay762 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 as long as you have a button that can be operated from the drivers seat ie on steering wheel or end of stalk it will pass - I dont think dash mounted counts
Jay762 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 been looking at something else and discovered that Morgans still have a dash mounted horn switch so it must be ok
markat Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 Ive foudn this: MOT Test of Horn Operation Control can be easily reached by the driver Loud enough Not a sequential multi-tone. Further InformationPre1906 vehicles can have a gong, bell or siren audible warning, providedthey were designed before 1 January 1905 and constructed before 31December 1905. Reason for Rejection The horn control missing, insecure or not readily accessible to the driver. Note: Inform the driver if the horn is insecure. Or the horn is inoperative is not loud enough to be heard by another road user is a gong, bell or siren has more than one tone Note:When operated, a two or more tone horn automatically produces a soundwhich alternates at regular intervals between fixed notes If fitted to a vehicle first used on or after 1 August 1973, emits a sound which is Not continuous or uniform Harsh or grating So, I might be ok with a separate switch. Bet that'll look nice :(
Gambit Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I would maybe get a start button off eBay have that as the horn, just to make it look like a push button start.
Jay762 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 and then watch your mates try and start it on the button    almost as funny as wiring it to the brake :D
