betchers Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Hi all my car just started getting hotter than normal, i inmediately stopped before it got anywhere near red, i opened the bonnet and there is water all down the nearside front... any ideas?!
stants Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Just a guess as the pics won't load for me (at work) has the plastic end of the rad developed a pinhole or crack ? May not be able to see it, they are notoriously week and a crap design
Gambit Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 As stants said would be my 1st guess the rads decided to go or the bottom of the hose has split. Check your coolant levels though before driving home probably was already going to do that but just incase :D
betchers Posted April 30, 2015 Author Posted April 30, 2015 About half a litre was lost and i couldnt see any splirs at all...
stants Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Mine showed no signs of going started her up one evening was warming up when it started to **** out of one side, couldn't actually see where from or replicate it when I filled it with water so the pressure must have been forcing it out, Www.importcarparts.co.uk will have a new one for around a ton should get it next day too
Gambit Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Top it up with some water. Start it up with the skid pan off see if you can see it but pretty sure it will be the radiator.
Gambit Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 fingers crossed for ya I have faith though it's the rad :)
Gambit Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Yeah think we all doing worry that it's the worst possible thing. Rads still a pain but if it is at least not full engine job :D
betchers Posted April 30, 2015 Author Posted April 30, 2015 Haha this is very true, can you recommend a good replacement if it is the rad?
stants Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Standard ones only seem to last 3-4years, mishimoto do a fancy all ally construction rad with a bigger core it's 200+ if i remember
betchers Posted April 30, 2015 Author Posted April 30, 2015 Well I shall check that out... tomorrow... If I need to... haha
betchers Posted May 8, 2015 Author Posted May 8, 2015 So... i found the leak... the previous owner has drilled a hole in the top of the expansion tank
Gambit Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Lol always the easiest places to find things Not sure why he's drilled a hole though :o
stants Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Good news on the find, did you end up ordering a new rad or did you manage to find it before ?
betchers Posted May 8, 2015 Author Posted May 8, 2015 Well i already bought a thermostat so i found it while changing the thermostat... haha
betchers Posted May 13, 2015 Author Posted May 13, 2015 Well another piece of good news, I had a leak test done on the head gasket, that came back negative and once again it is back to the expansion tank, does anybody know where I can pick up an aftermarket expansion tank?
