My son left his old 1999 Turbo 2000 here a while back and about a month later, asked me to give it a run. Needless to say the battery is flat. No problem, I thought - I'll stick the charger on it for a while. BUT...

When I connect the charger, it tries to pull lots of amps and the alarm starts sounding. However I can't clear it with the remote. It may just be that the charger isn't giving enough oomph for that to work or parhaps it isn't as simple as that??

 

I could jump start it but I thought check here for advice first to see if I have to do anything special.

The alarm manual appears to say that if you have a flat battery, contact your dealer!!

 

Any advice appreciated.

Not yet. Trouble is the the charger overloads after 10 seconds or so and cuts out. Hence asking questions here before I try the jump start idea. :)

Maybe you've already done this?

 

Remove Pos and Neg leads off batt and try charging again.

Alarms tend to enable when trying to start with a flat battery.

Once fully charged all should be OK.

 

If charger shows any problem it may mean plates in battery are shot.

Is it a totally sealed dry cell, or could it be topped up?

 

Top it up to cover the plates if it's a re-fillable open cell type.

If being left stood i'd invest in a battery conditioner, batterys dont like constant charge flat charge flat, i used to get through one a year when i was hardley using mine.

 

Could well be the battery is now nackered, take it off and run it down to local battery place, they normaly test em for free.

 

Just leave one of these connected and your battery charging trouble are sorted.

After disconnecting and recharging the battery, I was able to reset the alarm with the fob so all was well.
