Jon_Dickinson Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Hello all, I bought my first Subaru earlier this year, a 2005 Forester 2.5 XT. It's a great car, plenty of go and practical with it. My only problem is that it recently developed a clunking sound from underneath which has been identified as worn propshaft bearings. I called my nearest Subaru dealer and was told that they could only supply the complete propshaft and they quoted me over £800 for the part. My first question is, can the rubber doughnut containing the bearings be replaced without replacing the whole prop shaft? or is it just too big a job to consider? Alternatively, could anyone recommend an alternative/more cost effective parts supplier please? Are there any other options, for example; do any other Subaru models share the same propshaft? I would greatly appreciate any help you could provide. Many thanks, Jon
Scoobyghost Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Not sure for your model( I have a classic impreza) but I was quoted £28 for a second hand complete shaft and bearing. I've seen the bearings on eBay for £40 but all posted from China so can't comment on quality.
