Hi all

Keen to get an Impreza but need to know which one suits my needs. I'm coming from a golf tdi running about 180bhp. I love AWD and the pull but I know there is a stretch of cars to choose. My budget is about £3k and I'm after the best on bhp but also mpg and running cost as a daily driver. I'm not sure what high mileage is like on these so looking for guidance

Any help would be great

Hello &welcome, high mileage isn't a worry if it's been looked after and haf regular services/oil etc.

Have you got a desired Shape that you want ? Classics could be picked up well under budget but may require some money putting in to tidy it up, bugeyes are are the least loved so should be able to get a reasonable one and you may see a few blobs just creeping under budget .

New age cars are generally seen to be better daily drivers due to being a bit comfier,my advice would be to look at as many as you can to get a feel for what's good or not

Thanks Stants..

Blob or bug eye I don't mind either or 4 or 5 door. As long as it's not boy'd up on the outside with decals and all.

It's really to know if the Sti is worth the extra pennies. I'm not looking to sink cash into it. Maintain for and perhaps a few things here or there. I also need to see how all the mods affect insurance. I'm 32 with a clean slate

STI is a better option for the internals but isn't all of the world few mods and a remap can soon see you pushing past an STI standard BHP

Got both bug and blobeye in the garage. I like both but I like the bug because I'v changed the headlights to morette headlights. otherwise I'd have hated it :D

I reckon you'd be more than happy with a wrx the sti's are nice but they command higher premiums all round, not even sure what groups the wrx &sti are in these days, basic mods like a remap and exhaust shouldn't effect the price it's when you start changing brakes and other bits the insurance companies start to have a fit, plenty of specialist companies around that will cover you for a reasonable price,

Thanks for the help. Yes I think a WRX would suit. Ideally I'd like to get one with the mods done already. I've seen one that looks pretty stock but has had a remap and a few other mods. It's 120k on the clock with FSH. I'll have a look around and see if I can take one out. Any members bear Ringwood?

What are the realistic expectations on mpg? Or should we not go there...

Mpg depends how heavy footed you are but let's just say it's better looking at it as smiles per miles :D
