karlos09 Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 hi guys look to change my rear suspension on my 98 forester s-turbo but when i look up for rear shockers its saying these shocks may not fit cus its turbo ,think its cus of the self leveling suspension can i just fit normal shocks do they have to be the self leveling ones or just normal ,and what year can i go upto to to fit other off other forester thanks , or what have other people used
stants Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Is yours an import ? I doubt if will have the sls units as standard, have a look at the rear shock legs if there's a remote reservoir attached to the leg then it's an sls unit, if not it's bog standard, So you can fit normal shocks with springs, kyb do shocks and you can get custom made springs from various places, Pedders also do a lowering kit and it drops the car by about 30mm You can also use impreza shocks/springs however it will sit low at the back as ideally you'd need to pit a spacer inbetween the topmount and car to take into account the different spring rates between the models, finally if you do go down the impreza route, you'd need complete units from a bugeye wagon as the tops are different from classic impreza, assuming you don't re use yours 1

stants Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 1998-2002 is the sf production run There's a thread here somewhere with all the part numbers, Are you replacing all 4 or just the rears ?
karlos09 Posted December 14, 2015 Author Posted December 14, 2015 will just be replaceing the rears as it sits really high at front ,was thinking for quite a while about lowering it but seems to much trouble and with not noing really what to get thought id just leave it stock ,but would like to lower it as i think they look great
Mr B Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Shock you linked to from eBay is NOT a forester shock (it not even a strut). SF KYB Excel G shocks are > Right Absorber KYB 334191Left Absorber KYB 334192 You probably have SLS if it UK model, they done SLS shocks without remote canisters & only way now for sure is inspect shock/spring or check part number. You can fit any SF model shock from likes of Optimal & KYB just be sure fit with matching non SLS new springs. even the later SG rear shocks do fit if want to but I wouldn't go that route unless wanting clearance benefit of sg strut & over standard height gain . thread below with most info > http://uk.subaruownersclub.com/forums/topic/13283-bargain-forester-sf-rear-strut-replacement-fix-saggy-butt/
karlos09 Posted December 27, 2015 Author Posted December 27, 2015 hi just had the wheels off and checked the rear shock for a number and the nearside onw is lime green and says Tokico 2a15903-b s0 what would i need to replace it thanks
Mr B Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 ^ optimal struts > http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-FORESTER-2-0-1997-2002-NEW-REAR-LEFT-RIGHT-SHOCK-ABSORBER-/301510004424?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&fits=Model%3AForester&hash=item4633658ec8&clk_rvr_id=958385094981&afsrc=1&rmvSB=true suplex springs > http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-OE-Quality-Replacement-Rear-Suspension-Coil-Spring-SUP032034-/141542632909?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&fits=Model%3AForester|Plat_Gen%3ASF&hash=item20f4992dcd&clk_rvr_id=958381095053&afsrc=1&rmvSB=true New strut boot & bump stops probably > http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rear-Protection-Kit-To-Fit-A-SUBARU-FORESTER-KYB-910072-/161277879413?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item258ce92475&clk_rvr_id=958412920878&afsrc=1&rmvSB=true Ride height with that will be close to normal turbo range to perhaps +10mm, will be firmer than old dead sls & 17yr old springs All those parts will cost about £190, if you need top hats for struts they about £45ish each ...
