Which Tyres for Subaru Forester 2.5XT - standard 16" rims.

Featured Replies

Hi all,I'm looking to get slightly wider Tyres on my 2004 Subaru Forester 2.5XT. It's got standard 16" rims on it, and currently has 215 60 r16's on. I'm looking to put 225 55 R16's on as they're slightly wider, and that size of tyre seems to have some pretty good deals on. Has anyone got any pics of their Subaru running stock rims and 225 55 r16 Tyres?

I'm on a 225/60/16 if you want a pic let me know

Hi Stants. Yeah if you wouldn't mind.

Scrub that just been to check they are in fact 215's sorry

If you change the profile from 60 to 55 your odometer will be inaccurate - would advise to stick with the 60 profile for 16's - 55 profile would be for 17" rims

The 60 figure is a percentage of the overall tire width. I would have thought that going down to 55 - although Not completely accurate - would help maintain something close to the same overall diameter?

David 1972 has it accurate. Going to 55 will affect speedo as it is the profile. The width of the tyre, that which is the "footprint" on the road, is the 215 or 225 figure, I think in mm.

Staying at 60 and going wider will also affect the speedo as the profile of the tyre is based on a percentage of the width. The question is which is a greater change I guess: staying at 60 and going wider or coming down to 55 and going wider.

I believe it's the circumference that's affects the speedo not the width hence changing from 60 to 55 profile will alter the speedo slightly.

Fastboy you're right. What I'm saying is 55 and 60 actually stands for 55% and 60% of the width of the tyre. That's how profiles are measured

Ah I'll just stick with the standard size lol

Just to make a quick point I run a obdlink in my 2005 xt which sais I'm running 3mph slower than the speedo and I'm on standard 16s so odds are your speedo is out anyway!

Ye they always seem to be out. My BMW e91 was the closest to true.
