Rizmo Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 There has been a lot of comment, on the US XV forum, regarding excessive oil consumption on new XV's (both fuels). Anyone on here noticed a problem?
Dogconker Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Never had to top either of ours up between services. And both have done about 45,000. We bought a litre of oil as a spare when we bought the car and haven't used them.
Rizmo Posted February 17, 2016 Author Posted February 17, 2016 Not used any on mine either, over 5000 miles. Seems some confusion over the reasons (some say poor piston rings), but seems to have been sorted late 2014/early 2015, which means mine should be OK. Did note that they said Subaru brought in the 4000 revs max for 1000 miles rule soon after.
Dogconker Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Mine is a 2014 model, my wife's a 2013, I know the 2014 had some new nickel coated Pistons or something. I always run mine in at under 3000rpm for the 1st 1000miles. It helps you fuel consumption and everything. But it might be because we're so careful to run the cars in properly that we've had no issues. Sent from my iphone using Tapatalk
Rizmo Posted February 19, 2016 Author Posted February 19, 2016 Seeing some of the modifications some US owners have made, plus the way they drive them, they seem to treat their XVs very differently to us. Some even happily void the warranty within a month. Probably the fact they cost half what we pay, and many change them every year, may explain it. Some smart looking and fast running motors over there, though!
Dug Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 mine has done 24K 2013 reg with no oil issues at all either
marcothio Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 2012 diesel, no oil issues so far. But I do keep a close eye on it as I drive 150m a day.
