Phila67 Posted May 9, 2016 Share Posted May 9, 2016 I have a problem with my oil temp and pressure. I keep getting both showing a warning. The fans are working with air conditioning on. Any reason why I would be getting the warnings. Oil checked and fine. It's only just started since the hot weather and particularly when stationary. MJP02 Posted May 15, 2016 Share Posted May 15, 2016 Ok if its warm and at idle that will be the lowest point your oil pressure will be, if the pressure warning light comes on its a good sign you have an issue. as for the temp warning is that the same light or different, not sure if they are linked. After checking the sender unit, there was some weeping from the connection so stripped out and reseated it. Fingers crossed seems to have sorted the pressure problem Going to keep an eye on it and will update. Don't like the sound of a rebuild. Could it be my gauges are inaccurate? Phila67 Posted May 19, 2016 Author Share Posted May 19, 2016 I still have issue with high oil temp and low pressure warnings on my gauges. Problem occurs when at idle. Once driving again the warnings disappear. Fans are all ok. Stripped out the sender unit this weekend and refitted but there appears to be a leak from the silver Colette that fits around the braided pipe. Could this be the issue? Also Been reading some scary stories about the oil pickup pipe in the sump cracking which could also be the problem. I have always been told that because of the way the Battery charges, it's always best to have the lights on when starting the car, so that's what I do. Invariably I just leave them on then. However, today I decided to turn them off and noticed something a little confusing on the gauges. With the lights off the temperature reading dropped 5/6 bar and the oil pressure went up 5/6 bar. For the rest of the time I drove it, not a warning light in sight and the readings appeared a lot more in line with what I would expect. So my question now is, why would having the lights on affect the gauge readings. Presumably something to do with the electrics? savage bulldogs Posted May 20, 2016 Share Posted May 20, 2016 Have you checked the gauge ,engine and Battery earth's ? Maybe somethings trying to earth where it shouldn't be. What is your oil pressure at cold idle and warm idle ? Cold is normally about 6 bar warm 1.8 to 3.5 bar on mine , pending on outside temperature and driving conditions Just read your other thread ,so thought I'd also suggest checking that the gauges are wired up to the lights correctly and there's no nicks in the insulation on the gauge wires that could be "grounding out" If it's not broke .....upgrade it 😊 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
