W444AJD Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Just noticed this on Subaru UKs home page - not sure how long it's been up there though. Since I have a 2005 Impreza I guess mine is affected. Have any of you taken your's into a main dealer for this work to be carried out? SUBARU RECALL NOTICE: IMPREZA MODELS (2004 – 2007) As part of its quality processes Fuji Heavy Industries, parent company to Subaru Automobile has issued an official recall campaign relating to possible front passenger air bag SPI inflator failure. The recall notice applies only to Impreza models (including WRX and STI) built between 2004 and 2007. The recall does not affect any other models in the Subaru range. The vehicles affected are equipped with front passenger air bag SPI inflators manufactured by air-bag maker Takata. The recall has received widespread media coverage as Takata supplies a number of Japanese vehicle manufacturers. It has been found that the inflators in the passenger airbag may experience an alteration over time, potentially leading to over-aggressive combustion in the event of an airbag deployment, leading to risk of injury. Subaru UK is advising owners of all Impreza models built between 2004 and 2007 to contact their local dealer at their earliest convenience to have the front passenger airbag inflator replaced free of charge. Please note, this applies to passenger side airbags only and we therefore advise you avoid seating occupants in the front passenger seat until the work has been carried out. Please contact our service department to confirm whether or not your vehicle is affected by this recall and to make a booking for the work to be done at your earliest convenience. 1
Gambit Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Been about a while mate but always good to let others know if they haven't seen it. Most of the owners should have got a letter, I know I did. But pretty sure some slip through the net. just bought one and not registered as letters been sent out. That type of thing
W444AJD Posted September 16, 2016 Author Posted September 16, 2016 I got mine in July this year, so no idea if the last owner would have had it done. Any easy way to check? Or should I just call my nearest franchised dealer? I can't find anything obvious in the paperwork. How long was your car in when you took it to get done?
Gambit Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 about 3 hours before I got a call to come pick it back up but it might have been done sooner I just used it as an excuse to go try some pub grub I probably say it's not been done and it's worth the call. But there is a huge wait for them being done I was over 2 months. It wasn't just Subaru affected it's massive across the motor industry BMW got hit worst. So they're is a delay getting the new stock out to replace the old faulty unit. They have even made a new factory to help with the demand it's that big a deal 1
W444AJD Posted September 16, 2016 Author Posted September 16, 2016 called up Ian Grieve Subaru in Falkirk, who are the nearest franchise to me. I'm now on the waiting list - apparently there are 50 cars in front of me on the list though...
Gambit Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Doesn't surprise me.I mean I was quick to hear about it through the forum so was 5th at my local garage to get in and that was few weeks after I heard I can imagine it's a huge wait now
Piggysniffer Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 I think they are replacing one a month
jschatt Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 I recently got some mats from dealer in Shipston on stour just outside Stratford, guy could tell from the reg if the car had been done or not , he took details and they contact you
W444AJD Posted September 19, 2016 Author Posted September 19, 2016 20 hours ago, Piggysniffer said: I think they are replacing one a month so mine will be in 49 months time...
Razz311 Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Took a few months for mine to get booked in as the garage was waiting on parts. But the work only took about 40 minutes. I think its all recorded on a database as they checked if mine had been done i think.
