Hughieboy Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 Evening All, Can anyone point me towards a fix for an '06 Forester heated seat that doesn't seem to work? The light comes on at the switch but the seat stays cold (Drivers side) Many Thanks.....
Jay762 Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 check any fuses, I would guess the light is associated to the signal voltage from the switch that would operate a relay controlling current through higher rated cable - in the same way your high beam and high current aftermarket horns work. I would disconnect the supply lead under the seat and see if there is voltage there - If so it points towards a break in the seats heater circuit / element. If not work on fuses / relays 1
Hughieboy Posted December 2, 2016 Author Posted December 2, 2016 Thanks, I'll start there. I'm not a wizard with electrics, just wondered if it was a common fault with a usual remedy.....
Mr B Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Usual 2 faults are connector wiring under seat knocked off/damaged so check that. Heater elements/thermostat or seat pressure switch the other, these need seat base stripped or used seat sourced.
Hughieboy Posted December 3, 2016 Author Posted December 3, 2016 Thanks Mr B...... I'll check it out this morning, hope it's the connector! 👍
Mr B Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 If you lucky, drivers side tends be seat internal assembly (pressure switch from driver in/out of seat) but you get lucky sometimes and wiring or plug knocked by stuff pushed under seat or seat movement itself. Worth checking voltage/earth to seat base before fully concluding element/thermostat or seat switch related. good luck . 1
Hughieboy Posted December 3, 2016 Author Posted December 3, 2016 Thanks Mr B..... I had a look under the seat and it all looks to be plugged in as it should be but I gave it all a bit of a waggle. Going on a run up to Daventry this evening so I'll see if they're working, I didn't have a lot of time to fiddle about today....
