moshe_levy
hello i own 2008 forester XT auto trans, i wanted to replace my radiator to mishimoto because i live in hot country. the mishimoto does not have oil cooler in their radiators. my question is if i put plate and fin cooler 30 rows like for instans HAYDEN 699 is it will be enough or i have to keep the original one in the radiator? thanks Sent from my SM-G610F using Tapatalk
Jay762
The oil temp (as well as your location) will vary with how you drive your motor - If it was me I would mount an aftermarket oil cooler either in front of the radiator or lower down - say in the intake hole (bumper) in front of the air intake. My Auto trans cooler is done via a modine / heat exchange between coolant and oil so does not go near the radiator itself. Fitting one of those in line with your uprated mishimoto rad might be worth investigating??
moshe_levy
yes i think it worth it we have here alot up and down roads and the car is "burning",but does this oil cooler without the oem one will be ok,because it only will be cooling by air? Jay762
This is the modine - apparently used on an auto Fozzie - this uses the engine coolant which will go through your proposed Mishimoto unit. It has an oil feed from / to your auto box and in / out flow for coolant linked in with your engine coolant flow - Do you have something different fitted to your Fozzie? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Subaru-WRX-05-07-Forester-XT-02-07-engine-oil-cooler-modine-EJ255-OEM-/262303904488?fits=Car+Make%3ASubaru&hash=item3d1287f2e8:g:nm0AAOSwWTRWzF2M This is one similiar to my auto Impreza http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Subaru-Impreza-Legacy-Modine-GC8-Oil-Cooler-V1-To-V6-EJ20-EJ25-Early-/272507298369?hash=item3f72b36241:g:IpcAAOSw65FXqv9- again it uses engine coolant to take heat from the transmission oil. Can you post a picture of your oil cooler 'in' your radiator so I can get a view on size comparision You could fit a separate oil cooler somewhere on the front of your motor like this (although this is designed to be connected to the engine OIL filter you could adapt it to your auto trans box http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-IMPREZA-TURBO-MOCAL-OIL-COOLER-KIT-STAINLESS-BRAIDED-HOSE-80-DEG-STAT-/351707294852?hash=item51e3636c84:g:964AAOxyOlhS2T76 One of the guys did a really looking factory job of welding in some mounts to the front of his Impreza and removed the fog light to flow air into it. This brand does a variety of auto trans coolers (Nissens) which you could mount in the same way as the larger mocal option http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nissens-Oil-Cooler-Auto-Trans-90653-/191992938662?hash=item2cb3abc0a6:g:ZqgAAOSwux5YLdfS Given your location consider more frequent trans oil changes - average is every 50K with less miles specified for towing / extreme climate conditions, also go for a higher quality oil than standard. If your 08 model is still on the original oil it would be a good idea to at least give it a flush (not just drain as you wont get all the old stuff out) with new stuff - expensive but worth it. moshe_levy
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0052R5PPQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_seY9ybTC3XK6J i'm thinking about this one. the first two that you sent me is little by my opinion, the 3 one is like what i just send you but mine is bigger. my trans oil comes into to the radiator in the botom on one side and goes out from the botom other side, the line inside the rad is ib side the coolant on the botom. i want to be sure that without coolant only with air the oil will be enuogh cold. Jay762
If you don't have a modine fitted and lines already to the front of the car just fit an oil cooler - have it in front of the radiator if you like that way it gets the air flow before it hits the radiator That doesnt look like a mishimoto product - do you have a link to the site? Is that the transmission cooler you are looking at - if so what are the dimensions? I would expect something like this http://www.mishimoto.co.uk/subaru-forester-xt-turbo-manual-04-08.html or http://www.mishimoto.co.uk/mishimoto-universal-transmission-fluid-cooler-20-75.html or this could be really effective? http://www.mishimoto.co.uk/bmw-e46-m3-oil-cooler-kit-01-06.html
moshe_levy
the first link i sent you is mishimoto rad. the picture is hyden 699 oil cooler, what i onderstand is that bar and fin better than what you sent me last, atube and fin, that's why i choose this one and not what mishimoto offer. Jay762
Ahh I see - bar and fin will use less oil in the total system and is a lower risk of puncture by stones etc but surface area ratio to fluid is lower so cooling effect might mean you need to go for a bigger bar fin version to get the same effect. moshe_levy
this one that i sent you the picture is 30×30 cm i can't find something bigger it's 30 rows. Sent from my SM-G610F using Tapatalk
Jay762
The Mishimoto one has a slightly bigger overall area but the specs of the hayden look good http://www.haydenauto.com/Featured Products-Patented By Pass Cooler/Content.aspx Why not install a gauge - that way you can keep an eye on the temp see what it currently runs at then when you make the changes you can ensure it stays within the 175F - 195F (70C-90C) range

moshe_levy
but if i put avent i need to put also sensor f to tell the vent when to start working it's been complicated. or do i have other way to connect it? Jay762
If you have a gauge with an associated sensor you can use that or you can use a switch on the dash and manually activate it, I haven't read the details on these last two fan options but there may be a temp switch / potentiometer already within the unit and you are just wiring up a supply for the fan
