Hi guys I'm new to the forum. And have a problem I hope you could help with. I have a 2011 wrx sti, when I start her from cold. I hear a winning noise from the engine. It lasts for about 30secs and stops. It's around top of engine near  power steering pump. Water pump area. It's like a metal on metal wining noise. It has me baffled. So any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I had a golf that used to do same turned out it it was oil pump on way out

Does it sound anything like a hoover, or is it a proper whine, don't know if your year has it, but  it could be the secondary air pump for the emissions, they run for about 30 seconds at start up to make the cats more efficient on cold start and they are a mahoosive pain in the a-ss

Could be power steering pump mines getting quite noisy now , or could also be a lot of things, could be your secondary air pump as it only starts from cold
