Hi

I have a 61 plate 2.0 turbo diesel Forester and for the last few weeks the DPF light has been on/off.  It's had an oil change (light went out for a bit) then forced generation 3 times at a local independent garage, each time the light goes off for a bit, then back on.  I've been told by the garage that I need a new DPF, it has to be from Subaru and there are none due in the country until October.  I've also been advised not to drive the car in case the turbo gets damaged.

Does anybody know if the DPF really has to come from Subaru (at a cost of £1000), I've found one that is apparently compatible for my car for £300 + VAT, too good to be true?

Thanks!

I would try chemically cleaning dpf first .

Thanks for the suggestion Mr B!

Specialist cleaning can work wonders, if not either used or new dpf as plenty scrapped early diesel foresters (can actually buy 08 to 10 crank failure complete forester for £800)

New oem DPF nice as quality and fit will be better but price just crazy, aftermarket is £299 but we not used any on subarus yet so can't comment on how good a deal they really turn out to be .

I would also check the pipes coming from the dpf to the differential pressure sensor as they could split
