When pulling up in my Forester I could hear a rubbing noise from the front end. When I looked under the wheelarches the nearside suspension seems to be resting on the tyre. Any suggestions please.

Photo would help. Top section of strut maybe? Have you looked in the engine compartment above where you’re seeing this, is the strut (three bolts) still secure? Or am I in totally the wrong area?
