TimP Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 MY 2016 XV Brake light went out yesterday. I've discovered it's an LED, however it cant be replaced and I have to buy the whole rear light unit at circa £210. Crazy
Justin Time Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 I'm finding out that Subaru OE parts can be expensive. They quoted me £168 for a single TPMS value! (but the parts guy did admit that there are other universal valves available elsewhere), and £168 plus postage for a single tyre, when I could get the same tyre from HiQ, Tyremen, ASDA, etc for around £130 fitted!
TimP Posted May 21, 2021 Author Posted May 21, 2021 Subaru OE only. So they deliberately engineer the tail light unit so that the brake light LED (bulb) cannot be replaced and the whole unit must be bought. What expensive and unnecessary waste! I buy cars from new, guess which brand I wont be buying next time. Saying that I was looking at Kia Nira & Soul E cars all the lighting is LED, but I am buyer aware now, and will be asking questions about bulb replacement. One chap at the garage Audi Q5 flashy strobe front LED Indicator went out, part of headlight unit cost him a grand!!
Jay762 Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 Yup a lot of manufacturers are using LED's more and more. Is it worth checking to see if it a loose wire on a circuit board? Failing that keep an eye out for people breaking from a front end smash. There dont seem to be the alibaba aftermarket options for your year yet as it looks like new imprezas share the same unit but are a bulb connection like the previous version of your motor
