I've finally found a spare full size wheel and had an All-Terrain fitted, we have some rugged terrain to traverse in Clywdd and the Sierra de Irta Natural Park a coastal mountain range located on the Costa de Azahar in Spain, so, a tube of air and a bit of glue just doesn't cut it!

To my surprise it fits perfectly in the wheel well, which brings me to my point, when buying a new Subaru is there an option to have a full size spare wheel or is it just a repair kit?

I don't know about new Subaru cars but I got the dealer to fit a full size wheel to a 2019 Outback when I bought it second hand, from the dealer. As you say there is the room.  The spare however is a steel rim with a different radius, can't remember the exact size.  It is virtually the same outside diameter and full width but it did have a 50mph sticker on it, like you get with one of those space saver wheels.  Removed the sticker but never had to use it, so far.

Before I had a Merc B200 which had a big well but Merc would/could not sell a spare tyre to fit, at least not to a secondhand car. I think they said  a new car could have one specified.  Anyway, a flat tyre on a motorway on a Sunday afternoon with white sealant fluid being pumped out convinced me never to have a car without a spare, even a space saver.

Since then I have discovered tyre plug kits (through motorcycling) and carry one of those as well.

May you/we never have to fit the spare wheel on a wet and windy night....

Cheers
