jonesie49 Posted December 28, 2013 Share Posted December 28, 2013 Hi guys, I live in Plymouth and a local garage has a 2003 WRX estate, in blue, 60,000 miles for £3,395. I'm going for a test drive next week but have never owned an impreza before. Is there anything I should be looking out for on the test drive specific to imprezas?? I'm hoping it's as good as it looks. It has all the space the wife wants and all the tuning potential I want. Any advice you can give will be greatly appreciated. Exhaust, brakes, alloys and interior are completely stock WRX kit which excites me as I can upgrade it exactly how I'd like it. Previous owner had the car 8 years and it appears well looked after from the pictures. And thanks guys for the welcome. I used to own an FTO and found the owners club and forum great for info and advice but also for club meets and car runs etc so I'm hoping the csr turns out to be great and I can really enjoy it. But would double check the cambelt 1st you never know. But it is due at 60k maybe why they sold it on. should be around the £300 mark for a full kit and fitting. I don't know anyone that way on or anyone on here that is a Subaru specialist though :( Sounds ok I know I do my own servicing so doesn't get a full stamp as such just written down. But I'm thinking of keeping the car until the engine drops out :D or I make the jump to a 2006 hawkeye not sure what to do myself ;) But the forum has some fantastic members all friendly once you get to know them anyway :D And looking at events being sorted now for the year. They don't mention any guarantees or anything so I will be asking about that and definitely negotiating the price if the cambelt hasn't been done yet. It's an MOT and service garage that sells cars as more of a side bit. I live in Plymouth and they are relatively local to me. Has anyone had any experience of these guys. I'm starting to think tomorrows phone call will go as well as today's and I don't want to be messed around. Thinking Torque GT can find me a nice tidy sportswagon!! jonesie49 Posted January 4, 2014 Author Share Posted January 4, 2014 Okay, so I have test driven my first scooby :D The good points: Very comfy Very fast Smooth power delivery Interior in great condition Bucket seats in great condition and comfortable Sportswagon boot has lots of space The air scoop on the bonnet is great to look at as you drive along!!! The negatives: Water marks on the seats and condensation round the window sills suggests some leaky and warn out seals. Does anyone know how easy it is to replace these? Some interior trim did show signs of wear and tear, which is perfectly understandable on a 10 year old motor. How interchangeable is the trim on a scooby? The brakes were pretty poor, how cheap/easy is it to upgrade the brakes? The biggest problem is that it is a Cat D right off. The garage owner did the repairs himself 8 years ago as an approved repairer but was still a bit vague about the details. It's putting me off what was otherwise a lovely car. Gambit Posted January 6, 2014 Share Posted January 6, 2014 I wouldn't let a Cat-D put you off that could have been anything really I've seen some cars be listed Cat-D just from paint damage. the seals around the doors just pull off and pop off on the Impreza I can't see it being to hard. But would think getting another set might be more costly. If you buy it I would maybe look at the seals see if you could re seat them 1st ot try a breakers yard. And breaks from standard discs and pads or cheap ones are really bad a breaking.
