Dubstar
Hi guys, Just doing the honourable thing and introducing myself before I start asking many, many questions! I have a 2004 EJ205 Forester XT with (allegedly) a Prodrive kit fitted. I say allegedly because the only paperwork I got from the previous owner was the handbook, but it has a Prodrive exhaust and induction kit fitted, and he told me the first owner (I'm the third) had it fitted. All I know is, it's a flying machine, and it's an automatic too. I've had it about 2 years now and put around 40,000 miles on it in that time, and it still makes me smile when I boot it and as I'm currently living and working in Germany with their lovely unrestricted autobahns, it would be rude not to! It does drink petrol like there's no tomorrow though when I do, especially when I'm cruising at 110! I drove back to the UK in the summer, late for the ferry as per usual, and set the cruise control at 120 mph - 185 miles later and I had to fill up again.. The brakes are knackered, it wallows like a mattress and guzzles fuel - it's my favourite ever car. And there's usually a fight between me and the wife as to who gets to drive it, it's that good. Now to attempt to attach a pic of the beast looking shiny... Shane
Gambit
Hi Shane welcome to S.O.C Thanks for the introduction and please feel free to ask away we will always try to help if we can :D And my advise get the missus a push bike :D and hide the keys
Dubstar
Good idea, but then I'd have to buy her a bike! She has a classic Mini (1275 automatic) but since we got the Subaru she doesn't really like driving it. She can only drive automatics, not through any medical condition or anything, she just can't be bothered with gears and only took her test in an auto! I have to say, that I now like driving auto's but I still haven't found an Impreza WRX STI with an auto box. Yet. I should also add, I have taken it round the Nurburgring, wallowing like a mattress and with crap brakes - proper good fun, and I only got overtaken by Porsche 911 GT2's and 4's. About 10 of them...
BlackBosh
Looks a beast, good colour as well. I have a friend in a similar situation with his partner doing a test in an auto. Though he may use it to his advantage so she can never get her hands on his scoob lol
BlackBosh
Ive just noticed the wing mirror. Whats going on there? Is it just a bit of Japanese styling?
Gambit
Yep BlackBosh has the right idea should go manuel problem solved ;) And love the Nurburgring. should speak with Tlag Adam and Bips they go over a lot their all in Legacys though but might be worth you guys hooking up :D
Dubstar
I do like my auto's now though! The wife wants to get herself a more economical car and when she does, I get the Subaru back - result! But as I work 2 minutes away, she has a 20 mile autobahn trek then she wins the keys. I might look out for the next time people are going to the 'Ring and see if I can get down there again. I used to live a lot closer, within an hours drive but now I'm a good couple of hours away, so that might be a good excuse to get there again. I don't understand the wing mirror thing, it's just what came with the car? It's a UK car as far as I know; the original owner wanted an all singing fire breathing WRX but his wife said no, it had to be a Forester or nothing. What he didn't tell her was that when he ordered it, he also added the Prodrive package to the specs. The 2nd owner who I got it off, bought it off the same dealer who sold it originally as it was part ex'd against a newer motor, hence they told him the story. Is it because it's red or is it a different shape?
Jay762
Wotcha and welcome - lovely motor - very stealth, would surprise a few people that :)
Dubstar
Thanks for the likes guys. Hopefully over the weekend I shall mostly bed rebuilding my seized callipers with a shiny stainless steel set of pistons I got from Godspeed - then it will stop as well as it looks! Whats the PPP take a wrx up to then 260hp?
Gambit
Look silver to me too so not the only one but each monitor or mobile never works the same I guess :(
Carp37wayne
Don't forget pro drive themselves only can fit there upgrades to subarus mainly at production so I'd be but dubious if it's a genuine ppp
BlackBosh
If hes 3rd owner dots see why not, im 3rd owner on mine an its got stuff with it my old (newer vauxhalls) didnt still have if you know what i mean
BlackBosh
I am always tempted to rock up to prodrive in banbury and see if theres anything they offer to private customers
Gambit
I'd say get it priced up and see what that money can get you on the upgrade market. don't get me wrong I'm PPP it helps hold a value for resale but seen better car with better mods done for less :(
BlackBosh
Thats the thing I've heard how much ppp or mapping and equivalent mods really transforms these motors its just weighing up difference in cost
Gambit
Thats the thing I've heard how much ppp or mapping and equivalent mods really transforms these motors its just weighing up difference in cost Agreed I have 2 in the garage one with full PPP and one without it's cheaper and better gains from a personal experience to built one private to better spec than PPP. But never want to take away what Prodrive do it's good but not great. But will help the value of any resale.
BlackBosh
...and theres always the argument that subaru approved the PPP when it came to warranty claims
Gambit
That is true :)
Miggs
first time i've seen them speedlines, which i believe are a prodrive thing, on a forester, also can you not contact prodrive and ask them if the chassis number is on file for having the package? and as for the PPP not as good as personal mods, that's most likely because they tune it to what they believe are safe parameters for their parts to cope with where as other tuners can add better stronger parts for more gains, once prodrive have developed the bits for a certain model a new model will be on the horizon so their focus will be on parts for the next model whereas other companies can keep developing parts for the older models if that makes sense, just a thought not a fact lol
BlackBosh
Thats a fair observation, if you ever fancy swapping those speedlines Dubstar I will happily take them off your hands
Dubstar
I do love those wheels as well, except when I had to buy 4 new tyres! Its now got a nice set of Hankooks on it and I'm €550 lighter. I see what you mean about the mirrors though, but because I know they're red I didn't even click. I didn't get any Prodrive paperwork with the car but number 2 owner said it had the kit fitted, but I don't know if that's just because it has the exhaust and induction pipe on it. Apart from I think it's really fast and it pulls like a train to well over a ton (love these autobahns!), are there any other things on the car that will give the Prodrive thing away? I'm also sure I saw on the Prodrive website that they don't do these upgrades for private cars anymore. Anyway, it's been snowing over night here so I'll be doing my brakes another time, and instead I'll be, er, testing the AWD system...
Jay762
You may have an uprated higher flow fuel pump as part of a PPP kit - it does vary between models
Gambit
I'm not sure what Prodrive added to the Foresters or the Legacys. And I'm jealous you have snow already :( ;) And I use private (coughs) roads for pushing a tonne on :D
