Thanks, I’ve looked at a few but my concern is the noise generated. I’m often travelling up the M1 some 100 miles or so and my original square bars gave you a headache at the end of the trip. The aero bars are virtually silent, for just around the houses the square non aero bars seem to be fine. ill probably wait till I get the car before I decide what to do, roll on the end of May!

It’s always worth asking the question you might get a “good will” contribution?
-
Don’t think this is a problem confined to Subaru I’ve heard of other brands with similar aerial problems.
-
You can get that size in CrossClimate and CrossClimate +, I think the SUV version is “new” so like all the tyre types they introduce them in the most popular sizes initially. As many of the CrossClimate tyres seem to come with an extra loading, XL, then I wonder if the update too the SUV tyre would make much differerence under normal driving conditions. I’ve been very happy with the standard original CrossClimate tyres on the Yeti and have driven in some pretty appalling conditions around Derbyshire in all seasons.
-
It definitely true that each tyre manufacturer has slightly different specs and sizing.
-
Agreed, the Bosch Aero blades are brilliant and so much better than the Skoda OEM blades. I’ve bought via eBay and Costco all for good prices.
-
Interesting. A couple of questions have you noticed any difference in ride quality as the Crossclimate has a strengthened wall over the standard Crossclimate? Your tyres are 235/55 R17 are they on 7J rims? The XV I have on order has 18” rims and is spec’d for 225/55. Not sure that I’d be able fit 235/55 R18 on the 7J rims on the XV 2018 model?

Looks like the general exclusions are Brake pads, wiper blades and batteries are obvious exclusions, but expensive parts such as air conditioning units are also often excluded.
-
Now that would be a first! I've always taken things like wipers to be so called knock off spares, consumable. But I would dearly love to be proved wrong. I tend to change my blades every year a small cost to be able to see clearly and safely.

Hi Jarvis, I can not talk about the XV yet as mine is on order but the difference between the standard square cross section and aero bars on the Yeti is marked. I can not really tell when the aero bars are on but it’s noticeable when the original square were fitted. Which is why I’m looking for an aero bar myself, probably Thule.

I’ve looked nothing doing but always a good idea. I use then from time to time, however, I have a similar set right now on the Yeti and they’ve been on for a few months with no noticeable increase in either fuel or noise, good design always works. They have different fittings to the XV unfortunately.

@Old Rover, thanks for the info, always worth keeping an eye out at Aldi or Lidi.
-
I always like to have a set of roof bars. The Subaru OEM ones are £190 but look identical to the Thule 961/757 combination (for the 2018 model) at under £150. Any thoughts, comments please.

I think they are pretty new but if you “google” Crossclimate SUV you’ll get the info. The tyre sidewall I think says CrossClimate SUV and employs a stiffness zone in the side wall and double casing. I’ve no idea what this does or if it would be any benefit on the XV. The standard CrossClimate tyres I’ve been using are very good, there are some interesting YouTube videos comparing 2x4 fitted with CrossClimate and 4x4 with standard OEM tyres.

I have these on the current Yeti and I’m impressed with the low wear rate and I improved road noise as well as the running in hot, wet and winter conditions. They would be certainly on my list of tyres, did you get the standard Crossclimates or the SUV version?
-
@Dogconker, agreed, strange that LR no longer make a similar model?
-
@Norrie, that sounds like fun, post a photo?
-
@Norrie, as always “don’t panic Captain Mainwaring”
-
aDogconker, I hope so but if it’s the Bridgestone Dueler Sport then they are definitely spec’d as a summer tyre.
-
@Dogconker, my order is for the 2.0i SE Premium Lineartronic and it’s definetely 225/55 R18. It was one of my concerns as I’d have preferred 17” wheels as I figured the ride would be better. However, the test/demo convinced me that the bigger wheels were OK on the new Global Manufacturing Platform, reportedly 70% stiffer with body less role and better overall stability. Doing a bit of the “google is my friend” research shows that the US has Falkens and that Australia has Bridgestone on the 18” wheels. So the UK might be Bridgestone. It’s so confusing even the dealers did not know what would be fitted. Not as confusing as with my previous Yeti purchases where it was pot luck what was fitted and there was usually at least three varieties shipped.

That’s quit a drift to even get the door open! Interesting looking at the snow drift build up from the earlier photos.

@Dogconker, thanks for the info and videos, I’d certainly be happier with the Yokohama, I had these on one of my Forresters and they performed well enough. I could do with saving the expense of a new set of tyres. It’s strange though that the demo car had Bridgestone tyres which were on 18” rims the XV in the showroom was Yokohama on 17” rims. A quick look at the Yokohama web site and what’s fitted OEM for Subaru sadly only shows 17” for the XV. @Norrie, we have to wait till the end of May to see ours for real, unless they can pull the delivery forward. To be honest, as I’ve said, on our first two Yeti I’d change to winter wheels and Dunlop winter tyres which performed extremely well. I’m just not so keen now on storing and changing the wheels over twice a year. It also proved to be pain guessing when it was the right time to make the change. It’s undoubtedly the best option.

@Dogconker, that looks very nice and reminds me of the farm, near Peterbough, that we used to store our caravans. Not that we caravan nowadays as we have a share in a lodge in Derbyshire which we use for 10 months of the year. The demo car had Bridgestone Duelers H/L Sport fitted and the dealer thought that is what I’d get the 1.6 XV in the showroom had Yokohama’s. I seem to remember that out first Forrester had Bridgestone tyres which were impossible to use in the wet. Maybe that is not the case now? I think we’ll have to wait and see what gets fitted but the information on your experience is useful and appreciated, I’d rather not spend the money to replace new OEM tyres unless it’s reallt necessary but the roads we use in Derbyshire can be a bit tricky especially during December/January. Michelin now recommends for the XV (225/55 R18 I think?) the Crossclimate SUV?

@Norrie, @Dogconker thanks for the reply and welcome, we decided on Pure Red. Not seen this in the metal only a sample but various YouTube videos make it look really good. We’ve had a lot of “Grey” cars etc., but the last few cars we’ve selected have been more “interesting” e.g., Muscavado, Jungle Green. Really looking forward to taking delivery and then deciding what to do about things like the tyres. Our first two Yeti’s we did the annual winter/summer change over but the current car we had fitted with CrossClimate’s, these have proven to be very impressive.

Hi, just joined the forum having placed an order for a 2018 2.0 SE Premium XV. I’ve owned 3 Forresters in the past but my last 3 cars have been Skoda Yeti’s. These last 3 have served me well but I’ve been faced with a dilemma of wanting a petro 4x4, automatic that is not yet available from Skoda (Karoq) or from many other manufacturers I’ve investigated. I had a good test drive in the XV which demonstrated the technology well and then was able to drive the car down some pretty awful roads and overall I was impressed with the build and ride quality. I’m sure I’ll have loads of questions but also hope to be an active forum member, I’ve been a member of the Briskoda forum since I got my first Yeti
