Spent last night listening to sirens and fireworks going off as we don't live far from the fireworks storage place that went up last night, sadly looks like someone got stuck inside and is unaccounted for. Worst time of year as they supply to retail and display companies so would have been rammed with fireworks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Glow Plug problems on diesel engine
I agree, as I said earlier though I had 2 civics and both had the same clutch failure even though it was a known issue with a known solution, a different clutch. But they didn't put this stronger clutch into all new cars, only the ones that broke within warranty. A lot of people wouldn't break the clutch within warranty because they wouldn't do 50000 in 3 years. So it was a gamble save money up front and just replace the ones that break within warranty, the ones outside wouldn't be their problem, this was my main reason for moving from Honda Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Glow Plug problems on diesel engine
I hear what your saying but it wasn't the case that every car that had the problem was 4 yrs old like yours, most were much younger. I'm not being unreasonably defensive of the diesel but from the experience of the earlier engine it's pretty clear that there would have been some indication by now. And you're saying about Toyota but they've not really got a great record either. As I said earlier pretty much every car manufacturer has something that seems to be its Achilles heal. I've spoken to several subaru techs now and they've all said that the issue hasn't presented itself in the newer engines so I'm pretty relaxed that it's possibly sorted. I also have the advantage that I won't keep the car for more than 3 years as its for work, as I have a 5 yr 100k warranty I'm pretty comfortable that any issues will be resolved under that. It's shame that you've had a bad experience with the diesel as it does seem to be a pretty good engine in general. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Glow Plug problems on diesel engine
Well I'm hoping all is resolved too, sometimes you just have to take a punt. Maybe that's why you only see the dicky ones, maybe they've solved it, I couldn't see loads of people banging on about it on the Internet except with the older engines. My wife has one too but she had an ex demo, she's had an issue with it coming up the engine, above and below the piston rings, on the exhaust manifold and valves and even on the inlet manifold and throttle body which I thought was odd, DPF was fine though didn't even need a regen and hadn't done more regents than should be expected. Never got a straight answer though from the dealer, just that it should be ok. I would have thought of it was coming up that bad that it was starting to affect the running of the car it would be clogging the DPF? But that could be just my limited knowledge. Not sure how you'd get coming below the piston rings and in the throttle body, her cars only done 20k but it's a 2013 model, dealer repaired all under warranty but they don't know (or won't say what the issue was). Glow Plug problems on diesel engine
I agree that in this country there aren't enough about to see what's really going on, but in Australia they're a big seller which is where I look as there are a lot of diesels out there many of which have done done mileage. It's the same engine as UK as I understand so there's a pretty big pool of info there. I only use shell diesel, the XV doesn't like nitro for some reason, gets a bit twitchy on the throttle. I do long runs and I plonk it on the motorway at 65-70 in cruise control for 2-3 hours often, that's how I get the fuel efficiency. I only got 79 once to prove concept, someone said you couldn't get over 70 on a 100 mile run. Red rag to a bull. Personally I quite like the diesel it's got done go, I've got the 2014 version with the nickel plated Pistons or something. It'd don't 18000 miles and had been faultless, I only have new cars though for work mainly for the warranty. I can't have a car out of warranty. Do sell or repair them then? You're obviously in the trade somehow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Warning about PPE when working on cars!
Don't blame you. To be honest everyone has inhaled asbestos, your biggest exposure and mine would most likely have been at school, to make schools fire safe they were virtually built out of the stuff. Ignore the different grades as being safe and dangerous it's a bit like saying it's safer to be hit by s transit doing 70 over an artic doing 70. Neither is good. Anyway getting a bit morbid now. I just wanted to make the point that gloves and glasses should be 2nd nature when working on cars. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

With your job it's solder and potential for asbestos in wherever you're working. I'll stop there else you'll not sleep tonight. Basically everything out there is trying to kill you! If you become a programmer etc, you'll have RSI and back/neck problems before you know it, oh and you'll have dodgy eyesight too. [emoji12] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Warning about PPE when working on cars!
Meet a guy who has contact dermatitis from working with cement and concrete and its a real eye opener. It can flare up at the slightest contact with anything with lime in it (and I don't mean lime juice before you all start). This guy couldn't touch anything when his hands flared, not even hug his kids goodnight, that's when it hits home, all he needed was waterproof gloves Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Obviously the last 2 don't happen the first time you do it, but doing these things repeatedly, especially if it's frequently greatly increase your risk. And I've done all of the above too. But not since I've been doing safety professionally as I've see. The results of these sorts of things, not pretty. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Glow Plug problems on diesel engine
I'd have to disagree about the fuel economy, I use mine on motorway quite a bit and driving around North Wales and I get around 56mpg generally and have had 79mpg on long motorway run (hypermiling) think that's pretty good for 1.5tonne full 4x4. The 1.6 CRV is only around 60mpg extra urban and that's only 2 wheel drive. There have been no issues identified since 2012 though I know there were issues in the earlier engines. Go to any website about any car and you'll see all the same stories, all manufacturers are the same it's just you only notice what you own. Go and get a Toyota and see how often that gets recalled. Honda had the same issue with clutches burning out on civics for several years they never admitted it I had 2 burn out in 70,000 miles and I had a fight on to get it sorted at £2500 a pop. Not saying the subaru diesel is perfect but I do think some perspective is needed. Steer clear of pre 2012 diesels would I think be good advice Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Tried a Clay Cloth yesterday
Not here yet, but should come with the free wax stuff, will try it and see. Hopefully will come tomorrow, was going to clay the cars this weekend so good timing. Will be trying out on s white and a black car so will get a good feel if ok. Probably try the new wax on the black car as it'll be easier to see if better than my current regime. Will report back next week Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Warning about PPE when working on cars!
Glad nothing serious, but potential. Three things to consider with PPE and working on cars. 1, Wear safety specs as described above not just when grinding but also when lying under your car and looking up. Just asking for something to fall in your eye otherwise. 2, wear gloves if you're going to get oily or greasy, these substances can cause dermatitis which can be progressive and horrendous in some cases. Surgeons type gloves are fine and you can buy a box of 100 for a few quid or cheaper online. Same with brake fluids etc, and diesel! Always use the free gloves when filling up a diesel. 3. Don't put oily rags in your pocket for convenience, there's a strong link between this action and cancer of the !Removed!, as the oil seeps through pocket linings. And you don't want that! Obviously this advice is for the lads but I would imagine it's not s good idea if you're a girl to do it either. That's it, done my safety bit now, and I'm not even getting paid for it. Glow Plug problems on diesel engine
There's possibly some recourse through trading standards based on the "fit for purpose" requirement, assuming you're UK. If not there must be something similar in other countries. There's enough evidence on the Internet to confirm the issue. Not sure if anyone has tackled it this way but I think it's the way I'd go. To have a significant issue as you have in the time and mileage you have could be argued the item was not fit for purpose, whilst it's fine for the plug itself not to be under warranty as a consumable the issue of it not being able to be extracted is a design issue and is therefore a warranty issue. I'd be o. To subaru with that view point even if you didn't buy the car new. I have a diesel XV but it's a 2014 model and there have been no issues recorded regarding glow plugs that I can see since 2012 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Glow Plug problems on diesel engine
Surely if it's only done 36,000 miles and it's less than 5 yrs old and this is a known and recognised problem, that subaru should be able to look at this as a warranty issue? I'd certainly be pushing in that direction. As for whether you have a diesel the general thinking is you need to do more than I think 16000 miles a year to balance fuel and purchase costs in favour of the diesel for similar size engine. The mileage you're doing would indicate s petrol might be cheaper long term option. That doesn't detract from the fact that with that sort of mileage on the vehicle it should have this problem. I'm no expert but there are others in here who will have had or encountered similar. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
