Not necessarily, I complained that we had had 3 cars and all had had the same problem, same with the door central locking (also a known problem) both were fixed out of warranty “as a gesture of good will”.

Sorry not been on much but not sure if this is still ongoing, it’s a known problem with condensers on XVs, every XV we have had has had to have a new condenser after 2-3 yrs under warranty.

Hi, to all the XV guys out there, I sold my XV a while ago and now have a dog crate made by Lintran who are one of the best dog crate manufacturers in the UK. it fills the boot if the XV, has a mesh top so you can see out of the rear window and see your dog, has large double lockable doors to access and has an additional security feature in that it has an inboard escape hatch which allows you to extract the dog from the rear seats in the event of a rear end shunt meaning you can’t open the boot. The crate is half fibreglass (lower half) and half square mesh. big enough to hold 2 spaniels comfortably. This box is in excellent condition and would cost £690 to have made today, it is purpose made for the XV but would also fit a forester and probably an outback I’ll try and post pictures later but anyone wanting measurements let me know we are asking £300 If interested DM me. thanks DC

I’ve done the same thing with my replacement vehicle using plasti-dip. I bought a Ssangyong pickup just to tow the caravan about as the XV wasn’t really up to it due to the dual mass flywheel but the Ssangyong had chrome everywhere. not any more, took me about 3 hours to do all the badges and logos, side strips and grille etc. I swear by Plasti-dip

Halfords plastidip is rubbish, the proper stuff is much better and hardly any more expensive, had it on my XV for about 3yrs I r something I did nine with proper Plasti-Dip, followed the instructions on Dip-my-car on Youtube with Fonzy (honestly not even joking, the guy is called fonzy), didn’t even have to remove anything from the car, all sprayed in situ. i preferred this way because it looks like the surrounding plastic, like you bought a different grille, plus the rear badges are a piece of cake using plasidip

Nice, have you seen the chrome delete posts at the beginning of this page. There is some goid stuff there how to do it, me and a couple of others have done it, I don’t have my subaru now but it looked quite aggressive with no chrome. there is also info on changing badge colour too, I changed mine to white

Not sure at the minute, if you buy new We’ve generally had a 4 week delivery time. unfortunately my review is for the Euro5 Diesel version. I have driven a petrol version and it didn’t have the same sporty feel as the diesel, even the Euro6 diesel was pretty lacklustre to drive compared with the Euro5 though quite a bit better on fuel. Subaru don’t make diesel versions now though and I think all new petrol ones are CVT. but they are a good car, I sadly had to let mine go after 5 yrs as I needed a workhorse for towing so bought a Ssangyong Pickup which is purely for pulling a caravan. definitely worth a look if you’re looking fir a mid size family car, and they do handle pretty well.

Generally exhausts on diesels particulary those to make them more sporty sound awful just because they have a rough sound to them, they tend to sound like there is something wrong with the car rather than improve the sound. My mate did this to a diesel mondeo and it just sounded like it was knackered rather than tuned, he also noticed no difference in performance. You’d have to remap it to get anything useful out of it. Diesels aren’t really suited for tuning.

I had mine for 5 years and even in -10C nothing ever froze up. Sounds like water is getting into the mechanism somehow

The new musso uses their own engine and an Aisin 6 speed auto, the mercedes transmission and engine apparently was crap. It’s a 2.2TD 180hp and 400Nm which is why I wanted it for towing I wemt from the shortest in my class at 9yrs old to the tallest in the school at 6’3” by age 11. I went through clothes like hot dinners, my brothers never got to wear them because they didn’t reach 6’ until they were in their teens.

Bought a Ssangyong pickup to tow the caravan and carry our kit, didn’t need anything fancy but it cost around £15,000 less than an equivalent mitsi or ford pickup and then I got £4k off list so saved almost £20k on an equivalent well known branded pickup. It’s built for towing so is ideal for my needs plus a 7yr nose to tail warranty.

Yep, XV is gone, dropped it off at the dealers today. Shame as it looked mint.

No I had diesel injector knock not suspension rattle

Well I’ll still be here because the wife still has an XV, it’s just mine won’t be here. unfortunately, with Subaru ditching diesels it means all their cars now have a refucrd towing capacity. I need to tow a 1500kg caravan, the new XV won’t pull it, literally! it would also be illegal to try, the forester and Outback previous diesels have the Euro6 engines with less torque at low revs than my Euro5 which is a pain for towing. The forester and Outback literally can’t carry as much stuff as the XV either. so whilst I love my XV it’s to expensive to justify driving 5 miles to the station each morning and not good enough a tow car to justify keeping it for that, so I have gone for the Ssangyong Musso Pick up which although Korean is only £23k new, has 400Nm torque a better trim level and is perfect for towing weighing in at over 2 tonnes. It’ll pull 3.5tonnes and you can put a tonne in the back. Plus a 7 yr warranty means I don’t really need to worry about it beyond brakes and tires etc. And that’s why I am selling the XV, well Sold thd XV now to the dealer so once my new pickup lands it’ll be gone. Anyone interested should call Pinkstones Subaru as it will there in 4-6 weeks.

Well after 4.5 years I have come to the tough decision to part with the XV and buy something far less fun. I only do about 150-200 miles a week at the minute so so I don’t need such a big car for driving to and from work and we’re looking for something that is much more for towing and an automatic. the XV pulls fine but could really do with a heavier car, plus autos ard a doddle to tow with. As such it looks like in the next few weeks I’ll be reluctantly selling the old girl for a pick-up or something, wife will still be keeping hers. If anyone is looking for an XV with FSH etc that has been well looked after 😉

This is correct you get up to 6 yrs under the sale if goods act regardless of warranty, not sure about cars though as they sit differently in the Act

Thanks for this, I’’m after a totque remap over performance, mine pulls like train anyway, but the extra torque when towing would be handy. My diesel drives more like a petrol (apart from the low end torque) in that it’ll pull fairly consistently between 1600 and 4500 rpm. I always let it warm up fully before getting the turbo fired up, I have a 2014 Euro 5 engine in mine, the only issue I’ve had with it was the injectors which it’s going back in for again on Thursday for yet another relearn on the injectors and fuel pump., apparently it’s having 5-6 relearns according to subaru this will resolve the injector issue. incidentally when I asked for dos amd don’ts I actually meant in relation to remaps.

If it’s over 3 yrs probably not covered, subaru 5yr warranty is 3yrs nose to tail and an additional 2yrs drivetrain warranty. Certainly give it a try though as if they’ve had problems they do address warranty claims outside the warranty, I had a new door lock mech about 6 months outside of warranty as a goid faith repair because they knew if an issue good luck
