  1. Yep that certainly goes to show that sometimes asking a quick question gives some big results even if unfortunately not quite the one you were after. Wow, that looks like was some shunt for sure, car looked sweet before that. Such a shame :(
  2. That's the exact sort of reason I keep asking about them. You never know what's lurking in their past and if one question saves the extra money of other checks then it's great. If I do go for it however I will do a full hpi but if anyone did have info upfront of something like that I'd just walk away full stop :)
  3. Thanks Gambit, just thought may be worth an ask as you never know do you.
  4. Sorry that I keep posting up asking questions about the cars and if people know of the cars amongst the group it's only as it's not the previous owner selling was just trying to see if anyone knows any of it's history. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=251629036611 He may also take my car in as a swap against it so may kill two birds with one stone but that's not guaranteed yet.
  5. Wow, any find any that sound like that at present at that money. Great find and buy by the sounds of it. Best keep looking then :)
  6. Appreciate the comments guys, it's all helping. May take a while responding today as at the in laws Silver wedding anniversary do. As I said though, appreciate all input :)
  7. Cool, it gives me something to guide against. I know everyone will have a difference in thoughts on this but may help gauging what's a little ott price wise then. Cheers Matt.
  8. This is something I'm still not sure on with these imprezas and that's pricing. I'm not exactly sure when they are over priced albeit slightly or if they are about right. Very hard to tell as they seem to fluctuate a lot on price. For a guide, what would you expect to be looking at payin for say an 04 sti with between 80k on the clock with full history? Also what mileage would start to put it off looking at one of these as there is a very local sti wide track dccd model to me that is under £6k with 110k but rebuild proof, just unsure of the mileage as usually prefer to buy something with less than 100k on the clock lol.
  9. Seen this on line and as am looking to get one thought I'd ask on here what people's thoughts are on it from the write up and look of it? Is it a known one on here or does anyone know who the owner is? http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=331331979751
  10. Appreciate the input. After doing a little reading up this evening yes I see there are a fair few differences between the two versions. I don't think I'm ever going to be doing Big power chasing in them as I can't warrant the money got that kind of thing but in fairness I can never leave a car standard. I just want to get the best one I can afford to get, why I'm asking for this advice. Maybe need to consider a little more then first.
  11. I appreciate where your both coming from and this is what I meant by I know all will have their favourites and personal preference. Granted I would love to say yep, I have the Sti version but I would be wondering if it is really going to be something that is going to be viable. I have now found another nice looking one with 85k on it with fsh and belts, bearings and so on all done with paperwork to prove and it's got a gorgeous set if rotas on it too which set it off. This one is on a 53 iirc. I'm sure whichever one I was to go for I would be over the moon with it and absolutely love it, it's just is the Sti going to be physically better or for what I'm looking for at present will I not notice that much in reality? I do enjoy pushing hard when out on my own but have to obviously chill out when family out in the car. Still a boy at heart though which is why I'm unsure ;)
  12. Ah I've seen that the sti I'm thinking about states 6 speed but doesn't mention the dccd on it. I know others have mentioned along with the wide track options. Mileage the wrx has 69k with full main dealer history with full invoices, the sti has 67k with history and a folder full of invoices and receipts the owner says. Both around the £6-6500 price range and at present both are supposedly standard barring the wrx with PPP setup. Tuning wise I think I'd be happy for a while but would probably like to hit 3-350hp eventually. Not major power as would be the family car so needs to be as reliable as a modded car can be but something that would always put a smile on your face when you go out in it all the time. I have been looking through for other sti's that maybe a little older or cheaper to offset the insurance difference but I know with this type of car I don't really want to go cheap as they usually are for a reason. At present it's all from pictures and word of mouth but as both cars are a fair track away and in opposite directions it's seeing which would be best to look at first..
  13. Are they really that much better? I only ask as the insurance is what makes me a little reserved as the sti is coming up at over £400 extra to insure than the wrx. Obviously I will do more phoning round on that but I was a little surprised at the difference. The wrx being £462 & the sti being £938 iirc. A big jump but this is only quoting through my current ins group so may well be bettered. Do all the sti's have the dccd system or is that only on certain models?
  14. I know it's all going to be down to personal preference but I'm currently looking into the Blobeye imprezas and at present two are catchingy eye. One is a 55 plate WRX300 with the Prodrive package the other is an 04 plate Wrx Sti in standard spec. Over the two which would people say is the better one to go for? Wrx300 or Sti? Advice either way on which is best reliability and running wise is appreciated. :)
  15. Welcome along, still waiting to be able to get hold of one myself as I too have wanted one for years but am in the throws of trying to sell my current car to be able to purchase the wrx. If you do get it don't forget to post some pictures up. ;) Craig
  16. Still waiting unfortunately. Had someone that seemed genuinely interested in the car until organising a deposit came up and then they were suddenly having financial difficulties :( I know I can't say they aren't having issues for sure as I'm not them and am not living their life but after all the interest and pestering to have it and agreeing on a price they have now started messing around. Thought the Scooby was in my grasp with this coming about and it seems it's been swiped away yet again. Hate selling cars for this very reason, plus getting really frustrated as they seem to have doubled in my area at present and everyone with an Impreza appears to be out and about whenever I am and taunting me with theirs lol. Wanting one so bad now it's annoying :)
  17. Hi Dan, cheers for that mate. I may well be in touch once we know more what's happening about the cars. My current ins co quoted me over £900 with my wife as they would only insure the car as an sti which it is not but were adamant that's all they could do at present. Went online and got quotes for £470 with it being noted as the wrx300 with prodrive package so a little more than disappointed by my current company that are aupposed to cater for modified performance cars lol. Anyway, I'll stop waffling on but when we know a little more I will definitely get in touch.
  18. Yep, we had to go without a car for a few days a while back and it was murder. Just complicated everything so much having to either wait for public transport or paying over extortionate taxi fayres. We don't drive everywhere, we do walk a lot with our children and enjoy being out and about but as usual when you don't have a car is when you really could do with one the most. Sod's law and all that.!
  19. Haven't actually had a proper look on here at the sale section yet, will do though. Mine is up for sale privately but it's not the most common car and is a little bit left field so depends how quickly it will go. Can't really go without a car as 2 children and work travel, not something I can get around without one unfortunately :( Like the suggestion though :)
  20. "Liked" to help you out :)
  21. Very true. I suppose whichever way you flip it whenever looking at buying a 2nd hand car it's always going to be a gamble as unless yours from new you just don't know it's history fully. Well after speaking to the guy today he's really knocking me down on my cars price so am having to re think the possibilities now anyway as I stand to lose more than I can afford at present. Fingers crossed for some positive news from him in the end.
  22. Ah that's what I meant to put sorry, yes big end failure. Mmm, sounds lovely in that video doesn't it. :( Is that a very common issue with these then or is it like the focus st and cracked liners situation where it does happen but not actually all that often?
  23. I will try again and say that after "reading the brochure" link you sent me that it is actually classed as a WRX then and not an sti. It may be the prodrive option that's making them want to class it that way but I will certainly try to argue the point yes. As it's at a dealers it's going to be a little but if luck depending on how it was looked after but I suppose if the history all ties up with properly maintenance wise it's jus going to be down to the rest of it. Would piston slap be very noticeable as may have to look on YouTube or something to see how they sound if they suffer? May well try to get another quote as you say so can at least compare. :)
  24. Lucky lucky, 2 wrx's.. Jus greedy :D I have been in touch with the insurance co for a quote and they seem like they are quoting it as an STI for insurance purposes though. Is this actually classed as an STi or the Wrx300 as with his title I'm also a little unsure and want to get it insured correctly if I do go to buy it. Sorry for the constant "newb" questions but as I say I don't know lots of "technical" info or spec on them :(
