Yeah I realised this once I went back over it. It was the way the lovely lady said it all made it sound different and worried me a touch. Still only 28 days before they right the policy off so now have just under a fortnight left I believe. See what happens with these cars, really fighting the urge to just buy one as have wanted one for years so temptation is very high. Most nice ones are miles away though which is annoying. The only other one I can find at present that I like the look of is all the way over in Wales. Another 4hr drive if I want to go to view that one :( Makes it more frustrating I missed out on an awesome one just 30mins down the road last week as contacted the dealer a little too late.

Thanks for the link, I will try to get in touch with him and see what he says as you suggest. Yeah I have 11yrs ncb, my company (sky insurance) only give upto 9 yrs on the policy but as the policy hasn't yet run it's full term this year she said it won't go down on my ncb history so would lose the equivalent even though they don't recognise higher than 9yrs. My last insurance co used the full amount of discount but it's each to their own on the insurance co front and how they run/discount I suppose. I thought the 28 days was a little short but I think it's just this years bonus I will lose after looking into it further.

Saying that are there any reputable specialists in the Bedford area that anyone can suggest to get to possibly give it the once over then? I'm still learning who's who in the subaru world so unsure if anyone would be local that is trustworthy. Insurance wise they stated if I don't transfer onto another vehicle before the 28 day period expires they would cancel the policy and is lose the ncb as not transferable to my other car insured with them due to its low value. May mean that I'd lose this years bonus though rather than the complete amount thinking about it?

All things I've considered too. It is a genuine prodrive sti, genuine 1 owner car with history but does have a few war wounds but not in anyway a shed at all. For the money though I would have expected him to be a little more courtious and on time for the viewing. I agree that there aren't loads if people that would pay this sort of money for a 12 y/o performance car that everyone knows will have been thrashed at some point if not for most of it's life. I know people will spend more than I can afford too and I would love to be able to but for what I'm looking to spend most people are then looking at Vw, Audi, ford and so on as it's not to everyone's tastes is it. Still looking all the time but none are really what I'm after at present. Only got 18 days until they cancel my insurance policy too before I lose my ncb so trying to see what I can find asap without making a rash choice :(

I get what your both saying. It's just a shame as the car itself seemed really quite nice (albeit the first I've driven without it being in a car park covered in snow) but it seemed to do everything as it should. But it's a proper shame he guy trying to sell it just doesn't give a toss and your always causing him issues as he's so busy.. May be because it's one of his cheaper cars he possibly isn't as fussed but if I was looking to spend £10k I'd be utterly peeved at his communications. Would love the car just really have no faith in the guy selling. Tried to research him/ the company but haven't seen much in the way of reviews to see what's what either.
-
Still unsure on what to do at present. I really like the bugeye I went to see although unsure on the little noise it had but the main reason I'm unsure is because of the guy selling it. He just has no customer service skills whatsoever. It's like me possibly wanting to spend £6k with him is an issue. Bit of a mind war going on at the mo.

Oh yeah I can do a reasonable amount of things myself but the bigger things or sometimes actually finding what's at fault can take a while. Bigger things I will take to those that know though :)
-
I know it's one of those things that describing is hard and unless people hear it in the flesh then it's hard to suggest what it could be. Either say though I appreciate the suggestions as gives me things to think about :)

Unfortunately I won't have that much to put a side as backup as I'm spending almost all I can afford on getting the car itself. Obviously if something drastic happens or is needed then I will just have to did the money for it but if I try to keep that amount of money back for "just incase" it will mean me saying goodbye to the sti option and that's the one I want really. Just trying to make sure that I get the best possible one for the money I have available as most do when it comes to cars so it will mean I have to spend the biggest or all of my budget on the car itself. Hopefully I won't be bitten or at least too hard if I do lol. No didn't get to see the history on the bug, he didn't have it with him at the time but I've asked for photographic proof with reg showing in pics to show the fsh and all the documents and invoices he said he had for it. I know it's not the best way to do it but it's the only way I have available until possibly going again next weekend. I will make sure he understands that if however he cannot provide the docs he says he has for it I will not be taking the car. Just trying to be wary and make sure I get all info possible before doing the deal.

Ah well that's handy to know regarding the slap and thought more smoke due to weather and so on. He said not been started for a few days yes. I'm thinking I may be going for that one if he can prove the history on it via some pictures as didn't have it to hand at the time which was a shame but as I say it's just the strange clunk that was there when lifting off the clutch but only happened at very slow speeds / manoeuvres and didn't seem to affect the drive at all. Pulled so well through all gears and drove straight and true. We shall see what developes tomorrow when I call him back. No the other guy (blob guy as I shall refer) had only the blobeye. He did have an S8 Audi, 350z with Nismo kit, evo 6, 2 x rx8's and a gt86 along with some others which seemed to be his own cars. He was very genuine though and said that other than having the bits removed from the car new very little about it's history but had always been a local car in Bedford. May well be joining the bugeye gang lol if it works out and will just concentrate on tidying bodywork when I get it home.
-
Yeah trying to ignore how much of a fool he was really and concentrate on the car itself. Just wondering what the odd little noise was. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I would appreciate it. The blob was up at £6750 which was at the most upper end of my budget which is why I couldn't go for it with it needing money spent on it soon. It would've driven me mad with the way it drove especially after the bugeye was absolutely spot on on the road. The guy with the blob was a great and very helpful guy though and has some lovely cars at his house where he sells from. Lovely area too. He would be one I would've liked to have dealt with in all honesty but I suppose you can't chose who had these cars for sale :(
-
Blob also supposed to have a new turbo on it but no paperwork to back up and was very very noisy. Guy was great however and explained everything and tried to hide nothing. If the cars had been with the other people I'd have probably come home with one.

Well then, interesting afternoon. Was kept waiting for over an hour by the first guy and he was more interested in his phone than us when there but didn't let it put me off as it's the car I was looking to buy not him. Just a shame about the service. This was the bugeye. It had a fair few more scrapes on it than pictures and man suggested but looking past that it all seemed ok. It was a little white/condensation smoke on startup but cleared after a couple of mins so was happy with that. Tiny minute amount of piston slap that was barely noticeable but christ the thing drove lovely. Power was instant and all way through rev range and sounded immense. Only other issue woman's a very slight click/clunk and slow speed when coming off the clutch. Was just a knock type "donk" but only when slow or manouvering but only when coming off clutch? Not sure on what this could be? Very tempted by it but he wasn't in position to sell it today even though had discussed it with him. The blobeye looked amazing, almost perfect imo barring the wheels but then drive wise and running it was horrible. It had been previously modded with f/m, full decat system, inner wing ind kit and dump valve with a remap. All the parts had been removed but the map was still the same so drove like a bag of poo unfortunately. On and off boost all the time, flat spots and ran very lumpy indeed. Plus rear shocks were knackered so just wasn't a good option for me at this present time unfortunately. Think once I can find out possible causes for the noise on the bugeye it may be the one I'll be going for.

I don't know why the links aren't loading this evening. I know how to load the links btw but they just won't do it at present. I will have a look into it some more
-
Oh yeah I know. That's what I was saying earlier. If they're both good examples then I'm screwed. If only ones good then it's easy and if both bad or just not right for me then it'll be frustrating but as you say, it's not hard to find another one. Just hard to find what I'm after for my budget but I cannot afford to go any higher on price now :(
-
Can't argue with that mate :)
-
Well I would've always previously gone for the blobeye as I have always loved them but this bugeye in particular is certainly keeping me interested. It's also had only 1 keeper from new and has low mileage all backed up via hpi. The bug is also cheaper so that's slightly more appealing but it will all come down to which car grabs me most when there I think. I know it's going to be a toughie though :(
-
Very true. Been a long time coming and tonight is going sooooo slow already. At least had a busy (ish) afternoon keeping me occupied. Had to go get our rats a new cage and some extra bits and bobs the children had seen for them and have just fitted my HID's to my work beast (didn't think it actually had headlights they were that poor) which is a huge improvement. However I'm now twiddling my fingers and already looking at possible mods for the possible purchase. I know they have mixed reviews but am looking into a d/v as really love them on the Scoobs. Other than that will prob leave reasonably alone over the next couple of months and in March start spending more on exhausts and so on. Still suppose if best get the car first lol. Just need to keep telling myself if neither are the right one or don't get that gut feeling to walk away as another one will come up.
-
Well now, that would be telling wouldn't it lol :D No after looking at them more I realised being that it's almost a 200 mile round trip and that they are as I've now found out only 1.5 miles away from each other that I will be going tomorrow as they can both see me then. Only one could do a viewing today but after I explained the situation and that I would like to have a back to back comparison he was more than underatanding and said was fine. So it's D day time tomorrow at 12.30 for the first and then the other shortly afterwards. So by 4 pm I could be coming home in my new toy.!!!!!! Whoop whoop :D
-
It definitely is a marmite version isn't it :) At the end of the day it's down to the overall car package for me I think so depending on which I feel is best will be the one (hopefully) to end up on my driveway :D :D
-
Haha, yes they do actually look like some relative of the neon and corolla. Hadn't thought about the Scorpio but again some similarities :) I am viewing both cars this weekend, the blobeye tomorrow and the bugeye on Sunday and both have been hpi'd with very interesting results. I've been told power wise the bug is 305 as is the prodrive and the sti is 265 as a stock version. We shall see how they compare over the next couple of days but costs wise the bug is also winking as cheaper to buy and insure. Still I will fall for one of them so will have to see. I thought this topic would have a varied response :D
-
The bug I have found I believe has the full prodrive setup. It's got different lights, slightly different grille and surround and then the fog lamp covers are like the blobeye winglet styled covers with vents front and rear. Just improves the front end quite a bit imo. Still prefer he blobeye but if things fail on the one I put in the other listing then this one looks like a good one to go and view. Other than looks then are they the same? I mean more engine/ power wise?
-
I know this is going to all be personal preference but what are peoples favourites? I have always preferred the look of the blobeye and would love to own one but I have now booked an appointment to go and see a bugeye sti on Saturday (don't normally go for them from front) but this one somehow looks a little different and has really grabbed me. Obviously all depends how the car is but may end up with a scoob I always said I wouldn't own. Anyway other than looks are there any big differences between the two and is one a better option than the other at all? Any views, opinions and suggestions welcomed :)
-
Certainly hope so. Should be looking at one Friday evening after work (has somewhere with lighting so can see it in the flesh with light) but am just doubtful of main things to look at or look out for. I know my way around cars but I think I'm more jittery due to usually don't spend this amount on cars so want to get the best possible for what I can afford. Still as long as it doesnt sell before I can get to view it hoping all should be good :)
-
Totally understand where your coming from with that one, have done a hpi so we shall have to see what it's like when I view it in the flesh. Not hoping to get all hung up on something that's a relatively small issue in the big scheme of things. Shall keep my fingers crossed!
