Well my car has come back from the dealer for the 4th time & the oil leak is coming from the breather at the top of the diff. Subaru are working on a modification & will be sending the mod kit to the dealer in the next few weeks. Regarding the fuel filler cap, mine doesn't open either, again their is a mod subaru are working on & should be at the dealer soon. Until then i have to just put up with it...
Please keep us updated. What is going on? Did they sort the leaking out? If yes, how? Is this a known factory fault by now?
I am asking this because my mate just ordered an STI and we want to avoid any nasty surprise :)
Thank you in advance!

Although I'm not 100% I think that the only major difference in engine parameters between the ppp wrx and standard wrx is the sports cat ,which would allow the gasses to escape quicker .
Cams , injector size and turbo remain the same.
Maybe once it's fitted stay off (hard) boost until you've had a chance to run the car on a dyno (about £ 50 for a power run/map check) for piece of mind before "giving it the beans" while running a different map [emoji6]
Prodrive package has a high capacity fuel pump as well...

Sounds good to me !! I'll start another thread as well :)
So it can be any type of cat ? Is there a noise requirement ?
Yepp there is:

Well, I think is better to wait for a nicer one. Plenty more are available to buy. This country is a goldmine to get a nice Scooby ;)

Welcome ;)
You look like a very good owner. Keep going on this way.
Mongoose exhausts are fine (Good quality). Have a look on Apexi, HKS, Prodrive, Kakimoto,Invidia,Greddy just to name a few big brand. Here is the list if you want some different.
I have a prodrive system. It can be loud at high rev but absolutely liveable.
I don't recommend anything above Buddyclub (I had a spec2 and it was extremly loud over 120dB) as they probably illegal to use in UK.

Welcome ;)
If I were you I would wait for an another one as this seems too risky. Maybe I am a little bit paranoid but just imagine if you need to repair the engine ( it ran without mapping who knows how long )
Try to find a stock car. If you don't mind the mods be sure every mod on the car is documented and done by a subaru professional.
Ask them what oil they used when the oil and the filter were changed etc.

I know I would take it on the road just because I could and let it burble away :)
You`ll be like this won`t you? :D WRC on the road
Happened on Miskolc Rally between the speed sections B)

Imagine having that as your daily car, certainly would turn some heads lol.
Your neighbors would like you too especially when you start it and its in the warming phase ( idle rev around 2000-2200RPM ) :D

my mate stacked his s13 few years ago and still scares him thinking about it!
hondas are horrid little things
BUt welcome!
Ehehe. I loved mine because it was a proper oldschool car
Here she is:

I am sure you can find a very nice GC8. How much is your budget?
If I were you I would go for a JDM version GC8 V5 or V6 STI ;)
-
Classic Impreza and blue leds? :o
Noise level regulations:
http://www.legislation.gov.uk/nisr/1999/454/regulation/66/made
I have had a Buddyclub Spec II racing exhaust 120+ dB. I would not even try that in the UK. Probably the police officer would fine me after he pulled me off
First mission:
Find a nice example of a GC8
Get it checked
No matter how they looked after it, this is an old car so needs good care.
Instead of putting leds on it I would slightly mod the suspension, bushes, brakes and here you go you have one of the best and enjoyable car on the world...

What discs do u use with them?
I am using the OEM discs on the STI. Please note that CL pads are a little noisy when you brake softly. They squeak.
On my previous car I used Pagid as well. They were also fine.
I never tried EBC but I`ll give it a try next.

Thanks for the warning Gambit, I've even heard stories online of people going as far as stripping the prodrive bits out of a prodrive car and selling them on. There was one guy who got his PPP STI rolling roaded and found out it was only putting out about 250. Luckily this one has been fully serviced and looked over by Bulldog in Twyford who seem a very genuine bunch of guys. Unfortunately though the owner has already sold it to a guy in Wales! Must have been a pretty tidy example for someone to travel that far
That is why you need proof of the installation. For example mine has all the paperwork and the Prodrive certificate.
-
So what do all you guys use as your daily driver? I have a diesel Honda as I mentioned B)
I use the STI. I can`t imagine myself to drive a wobbly car with soft suspension. I would get sick very quickly...
-
I used Carbon Lorraine pads and I can recommend them. They are bite as a wolf and they don`t need preheat.
They can be used on track and road.
My everyday STI has ferodo DS2000 pads. They are also great compare to the stock ones.
If you don`t want to use your car on a track you can do the newage upgrade as Gambit advised above.
-
Hi Mrbeefs,
How much do you want for them? I could ask a couple of people in the racing club.

No worries snoop, i appreciate it. Tbh i've done a fair bit of reading up on sites etc but figured ultimately it was best just to chat to you guys with a bit of actual experience so its good to hear all this stuff. I'm kinda expecting that oil changes will be documented but if its been done by someone who knows what theres doing i spose there's no real way of telling how often the oil has been done.
Buyers market for WRX then matt? You mentioned 2.5k sounded about right for a std bug wagon n i reckoned (from what i've seen online recently) that 3.9k is probably a reasonably good deal on a low milage WRX prodrive but not so cheap as to be suspect. What u reckon?
Well you can`t tell except if the owner is a fanatic and has all the documentation about the car ( this is very rare I know ). You have to trust in the owner and get as much info as you can about the car that you are going to buy. Just ask him or her what kind of oil he/she used? If the owner can`t tell or can`t say the proper milage when was that done just skip that car and move away.
-
Cheers matt
Haha indeed Snoop, thas a potentially a bit on the sexist side but i take your point.
Don`t get me wrong. This is an advise only. An average john/mary does not even know how often the oil should be changed.
And we already have arrived to a very critical point. Every turbocharged engine is very sensitive to the oil quality.
-
Ah kl, well they look good all the same. This may sound like a daft question but does anyone have any idea how the acceleration/power in a hawk STI would compare to a bug WRX prodrive? Parkers puts the hawk at 276bhp and 0-60 in 5.2. From what i can find out its 245 - 265 for the PPP and 0-60 of around 5 which sounds pretty good to me, i also hear it has better low down torque than the equivalent STI. Turns out the dealer PPP i am lookin at comes with a 15m warranty too... is becoming more n more tempting
The STI version has 6 speed gearbox and bigger brakes the engine can handle more power if you are up to tuning it later.
STI suspensions are better than the WRX suspensions
STI differential is better
So its not just the 40bhp...
yes I know you can mod anything and change this and that. you do not need to hassle when you can buy it as stock.

Found out some more info about the prodrive Scooby from the garrage
"car has only had 2 owners the last owner was a lady who has owned the car since 2007, there is no engine knocks, no advisories on the last mot, the clutch is really good no judders or slipping and the car drives as it should with no suspension issues, there is no oil in the rad"
They haven't had the service book in yet but the cambelt "looks like it has been recently changed" but apparently the lady who most recently owned it didn't drive it very much... perhaps it hasn't been serviced annually but not sure if that matter so much as long as the oil has been changed every 5k?
No offense, but do you really think a woman changed the oil every 5K ? Or just the seller says this. Where did you get that info?
-
Finally the front bushes has been changed to Powerflex as well.
Scooby is running like a train on a track.

Your wheels type:
Prodrive GC-07C
Unfortunately the original wheel cap costs hell a lot of money. I don`t think it is worth it ( £100~)
If I were you I would buy stickers for cheap...
Paul Walker’s 550bhp Skyline is for sale
in Junk Room

They are out of their mind...
For this price you can get much better cars personalised for your need.
I never understand why would worth a car more because of the owner.
