  1. I'll be joining as passenger to Colin, will get my ticket online in advance. Afraid I cannot bring my STi, no budget for fuel. However, this is my first time at Santa Pod so looking forward to it....
  2. Well forgetting all your moments above.... I was looking a mature, sensible, knowledgeable..........hahaha ok basically a Subaru forum not full of nob heads (can i say that?) A quick google found this site and of course scoobynet which I knew of but this was the only place which seemed to have an active regional meet section, I soon got picked up by Colin (oh er) and hello whatapp group a selection of great people appeared. Ta-da
  3. You're welcome, I've spent around 2 and half months now researching, getting back into the swing of things. Joining this forum and the local guys in my area have been very welcoming. I have learnt alot and given time you will find the right car. My preference is 03-05 blobeye, I'd look for a standard car with good history upon which to build into my own but a modded one to a degree I would accept but not as a reason to pay more money as you dont get it back. I am choosing the STi as my budget allows, I accept the fuel economy and the comfort over the classic which is more raw but weights less as a consolation. P1's are far to expensive I've concluded, one of the guys have a Silver Classic Turbo 2000 and its very nice, goes well too, look for dyno prints if its mapped, and study it as his had amazing throttle response and low end torque. This is my opinion, I choose to ignore a certain couple of traders who regularly advertise on my piston heads, many cars they have for cheap/fair prices but I have read many things about them. You must make your own choice on who you trust. I rattle on...good luck
  4. Hi Ben, I cannot comment as much on the classic shape > Turbo 2000 etc as I grew up around a P1 and well that was ever teenage boys dream of that time. Myself am more of a fan of the blobeye (03-05), after an STi my self and the one piece of advice I will give is take your time. There are alot out there, but many will require work or you to put your hand in your pocket to bring it upto standard. I have a Mk2 Octavia vRS TDI so know where your coming from. The advice given to me, look for a car with less owners, fsh, lots of bills, lots of servicing. Usual car checks apply the RAC will give you a run down if you check out there site. I have been using UKVehicle.com but there are others as they are cheap to check out basic info on the cars past. For me its as much about the sellers personality as it is the car, good seller = chance of more well looked after car. Good luck in your hunt, keep researching.
  5. You have a point, I drive a Skoda Octavia vRS atm and whille its comfy and spirited for a diesel, I drove Colin/ScoobyGhost's classic at a meet a couple of weeks back and wow then I realised just how dull the experience is in the vw group cars. Experienced ford twice in the form of the focus's, just TDCi's, but not vauxhall so cannot comment.
  6. Always been a focused on the handling and performance side of things. Taught my wife to drive in a MK2 Golf GTD which was a 1990 1.6 Turbo Diesel (with a tweaked fuel pump) stiffer suspension etc, nothing major just a great runner, sold it with 218k on the clock but a lot of fun for £700 at the time. Not into sump scraping, just why!?, but i think its a social conditioning type of thing, like those who see fords and vauxhall's through rose coloured glasses, I just don't get it. I'll look up those wheels, and give the members galleries a skim at some point for inspiration.
  7. Good evening all, Got things a little back to front but this is me saying hello. Hello I am Matt and as the logo suggests...well I'll leave it there. I am new to the club, not new to subaru as such, a little rusty from my teenage years but finding my feet again with the help of some great guys and girls from the Kent area - very warmly welcomed. With a bit of luck I will soon be the proud owner of a Blob STI, then once we get to know one another a few mods can begin. In summary, like this place over the other forums, I nominate ScoobyGhost for gold star for the friendly introduction in kent. Matt :)
  8. If you have more than one car and a Mrs then it helps...alot. Best multi-car quote so far, £508 for two cars with admiral (elephant, diamond, that other posh one, all the same group) 1x std Pug 107 (not mine). Mrs is 26, 6yrs ncb 1x Subaru Impreza STi 2004 with mods, air filter, exhaust, lowered, wheels, dashcam, engine power increase up to 25% extra power. I am 30, have 10yrs ncb, 13yrs driving. Current car is a Octavia vRS 170bhp. Oh and I live in the country which also helps. Pug group 3, Impreza group.....pheffffth something higher. Ironically it was the suspension that bumped it up, the rest was about a £20 increase!
  9. Good evening all, First off this is my first post for any kind of proper discussion so bare with me, I'll head over to the welcome section next :) . I am from a VW background, my old man was vw too and well as you know its all about being low and slow euro style. Trying to get my head around what works with blobs, wheel wise. I have seen a lot of cars resting on Rota Drift / Grid is it? am aware the americans love the xxr's and i have to say I rather like the 527's... ....but...they are kinda common not that it stops me from short listing them, though reading other forums they come in for a lot of stick specifically quality. Latter teenage years I grew up around a P1, with its 18inch oz rims in that grey, which looked smart but a cant place my finger on it, not euro. VW was all about the dish so I suppose that's were the xxr 527's hold appeal as they concave - Chromium black of course. I respect you get what you pay for before someone says it :P. Was forever knocking dents out the Brock B5's as a teenager! What do you lot think, Jap cars UK styles?
  10. Might be hit and miss on this ladies and gentlemen, going to look at a car Saturday...
  11. To all who came, what an amazing evening, as a new member I thoroughly enjoyed myself. One of the most friendly, mature meets I have attended in a long time, the pub food was good to. I got about 81 pictures; a few I attach, but to view all my photos from the meet < Click Here > They are in a Microsoft OneDrive Album (paid so shouldn't get bandwidth limits), pictures are high res so be patient as they may load slowly. Taken on a Sony Z1 at 20.1 megapixel. Enjoy...
  12. Looking forward to this - new member
  13. A dark corner for the derv.. still it is race blue met and has a rear spoiler lol Sounds good, do the meets involve food or what's the usual deal for you guys in terms of numbers? Yay more name's to forget, memory like gold fish lol
  14. Hello all, I am new to this forum, just signed up to post in the hope of finding a local meet ahead of searching for a subaru - having been around and worked on a P1 since I was 15 on and off so kinda rusty so figure this is a good thing to do. I am near Ashford and used to attend the Seat Cupra / Skoda meets at the American Dinner many years ago, Dartford isn't to far though... Maybe one of you could let me know when/if the May meet is a green light, i'd like to bring the vrs up and if someone has a blobeye STI all the better.
