Ah haaah (said in a partridge stylee) sorry i'm technically on holiday so was trawling round the interwebs anyway looking at cambelt info :(
-
hopefully something along the lines of this spec Voltage : 12v Ampere-Hour Capacity at 20hr rate Ah: 60Ah Cold Cranking Performance (Amps) SAE/EN1: 390 Dimentions LxWxH: 230mm x 173mm x 222mm Terminal Layout: Negative (-) on left, Positive (+) on right; with the terminals on the edge of the battery closest to you as long as you get the same capacity and enough to crank it you should be laughing, (don;t hold me to this i'm no spark) i have some ghetto brand battery in mine at the moment, but a friend has a vitara in his legacy and it is a little smaller but he assures me it's the same rating, a new one looks to be around a ton so maybe the scrappy to start, i wouldn't bother with jap cars with a battery in the boot, normally a gellmat construction, lower rated and a ball ache as you can't bump/jump as it kills the battery for good and you have to give them a 3 day charger or something daft from flat to condition, may not be much help but who knows, !

To be fair i was just using them as a top line price, i wouldn't know what to pay as the prices vary wildly and was hoping to get some feedback on what others may have fitted. Would i be wasting my money on a 2 parts that came in cheaper ? Is it a case of you get what you pay for and what not : )

I appear to have the most un modded import ever, looks like it's never been touched even the wind deflectors were added here, ? the exhaust will need doing at some point in the next 12 months so i'm looking for help on types/makes, there seem to be many out there with varying costs, there don't seem to be that many listed specifically for foresters so will classic impreza ones fit ? i'll be looking for 2 parts i guess from the cat back to start with, the heywood & scott ones look v nice and also v pricey but have them listed for foresters, where as some of the other sites i could get a middle and back for nearly the same cost as the back form them, scooby bits do some reasonable looking parts for reasonable prices but will they fit ? i'm not really looking for big power gains or excessively loud, so i guess the smaller diameter pipes will work best ? and if i just add the two sections and a panel filter i take it the ecu will be able to work fine without any tinkering ? cheers

Check all your jubalee clips on your hoses from intake and airbox are done up tight and the airbox its self is airtight. Could be air seeping out somewhere and it's trying to compensate for it

Haha i'll let you off it was late when you posted last night ! It's amazing how much this baby lark cost's still got three months before the stork arrives :-* Service booked in at sheff. Did a couple more searches and they had a good rep on other forums. Will have a day to kill at medowhell while waiting

Hi mate, cheers for the links rotherham's not too far i was down thrre yesterday baby accessory shopping. The link is for a company in cornwall tho so a little far to travel : ). I'll give the guys in bradford a shout i've already spoken to sheffield subaru servicing so i 've got a couple of options. I'm just weighing up the decision to get the cambelt done at same time

Can anyone recommend a good independent for servicing in the Yorkshire area, i don't mind traveling, as the car only really has mot certificates with it and not much else i'll be getting a major one done, I've seen prices ranging from £249-£360 so i'm a little confused, any guidance would be great thanks
-
Excellent cheers for that, i've been checking when stone cold and when it's been run for a while. Whoever decided on a black coloured dipstick needs a pat on the back, I've never understood that got one in my van too can never find the !Removed! level. At least the car has got little holes in it making it easier to read

After much hunting random hardware shops i managed to find hlthe offending clips and refitted a lovely new gaiter, got home last night to find more bits and bobs had arrived in the post for the car. Obvoiusly the most important mod has take preference on top of the fitting list. My oc sticker lol ! :) I forgot to ask when i asked what oil it takes if it was fully synth or semi ? (opie site still playing up) And finally what is correct methodo checking oil ? From cold or run to operating temp then wait a bit and check ? Cheers
-
Managed to get the gear surround off it just unclips and is in two bits which is nice. Underneath is a different matter, the gaiter is held on by a set of little posts which the leather goes over which is held in place by little circlip o'ring type things. They look very fragile i've tried gently getting a screw driver underneath and work them up the post but i think the post will snap. Circlip pliers won't work as the ring seems pressed on, any ideas ? There's about 8 of them :(

I'll have to head off to get myself a flat cap, pipe and slippers & possibly a whippet to complete the northern monkey/ old man look ! saying that round me it's a wonder anyone can see where there driving most impreza drivers seem to have the seat so far reclined they may as well install a sunroof :P

Help! Engine Running, bonnet up, fancy alarm locks the car
stants replied to Hadleigh007's topic in General Subaru Chat
may sound daft but is there a pin number on the back of the remote or spare fob if you have one ? at least if you have that and manage to find out what system you have that's half the battle won ! try giving a lift to someone you don't know that well and the doors automatically lock after they get in, que strange looks and people asking you if your a serial killer/s*x pest -
Help! Engine Running, bonnet up, fancy alarm locks the car
stants replied to Hadleigh007's topic in General Subaru Chat
Which alarm have you got ? My clifford on my mx5 had an anti hijack function which automatically locks the doors after 30 seconds. Right pain for people getting in or out not to mention the 1st time it happened with me outside the car. If you have the user guide you can turn the feature off :) -
As the title suggests I've done a few searches but you end up with so much info you never asked for, the car didn't come with anything in the way of a user manual or anything helpful so... it's a 97 turbo, 1, what oil does it like ? 2, where are the trolley jack/axle stand points or somewhere suitable for jacking the car up without using the factory scissor jack, how do i remove the transmission console gear surround ? gear gaiter's knackered and I've ordered a nice new one, I've read somewhere that getting the knob separated from the boot is a bit of a struggle i'm sure i'll add to this when I've thought of some more Cheers

it decided to p**s it down half way through cleaning so hence the indoor shots
-
haha at least you have a manual ! off to clean it now : )
-
done a search and i seem to be coming up with lots of conflicting info. As the little sticker on the door jamb is all in japanese and imperial i'm a bit lost, at the mo i have 215/60/16 on front and rear. it looks like the sticker either says that's for the rear and 205/60/16 for the front. Or is the 205/60/16 an alternate tyre size azailable ? pressure 2.0 bar front 1.8 rear ? cheers

i didn't think of the club insurance, ! i didn't know if needed to be a paid up member to benefit (once payday comes i'll sort that) next thing on the list is a full service, i'm thinking of taking it to sheffield subaru srevice, anyone use them ? secondly are there any tell tail signs that the turbo's on it's way out ? i'm only using v power at the mo so don't know if that's cleaning out the crap it looks like the car has been sat for a couple of months so I've seen a little condensation, but no blue or oily smelling smoke and it ran fine on the way home yesterday, Finally before i rip all the interior trim out from the rear can anyone tell me why when i use the rear screen wash it comes in through the n/s rear speaker grille ? a common problem or just a loose connection anywhere
-
i did, thanks all for the welcome. bit of a nightmare with insurance(company had it down as a gls when the doc's came through) even though over the phone they quoted me a s/tb grrr ! but all sorted and wallet's even more empty. 500 mile round trip to collect yesterday and a return of nearly 30mpg :)
-
bought one ! once it's a bit more preaentable i'll get some pics
-
off to view a 97 s turbo forester with 127000 on it it's an import so only been here a 5 years, is piston slap comon or something i should be wary of ? thanks
-
thanks for the warm welcome. the sale of my mx5 fell through so i'm still looking. it really is a toss up between a n/a old shape impreza waggon and a t/forester. unexpected baby news means what ever i get has to be large ish. safe and not too fast (her words) the forester has more of an understated q car look and the misses won't be any the wiser haha

Hello everyone, I've joined as a future owner i thouht i'd get on here soak up as much info as possible before buying, Family needs are forcing me to get rid of the hairdresser mobile and buy something a bit more practical :( So once mine is sold i'm hoping to buy a forester, looking a a few at the mo a couple have caught my eye an 01 s turbo for starters, my budget isn't going to be massive up to 2k i think. If anyone has buying info pointers what to look out for etc or links to threads would be a massive help. And if you may be able to answer a few questions for a start ? The car i'm going to view this week has jus under 100000 on it and has just had all belts changed at last service, should i expect major expense to outlay on servicing if this has been done already ? How bulletproof is everything ? Turbos etc . Thanks again and sorry for all the stupid questions i'm doing this from workon me phone and the search function won't work
