kingy Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 hi all. just got my first scooby and im loving it. its a 1998 turbo 2000 with decat and dv. will be looking into power mods later such as ecu, turbo, injectors and so on but for now im just gonna say.... a up me duck.
stants Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Hello welcome, Dont worry we're not all that bad although gambit can be depending on what stage the moon is at, feel free to join in and get some pictures up !
JusNoGood Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Welcome mate. Do you know what it's mapped to now?
kingy Posted November 23, 2014 Author Posted November 23, 2014 Welcome mate. Do you know what it's mapped to now? dont think the ecu is mappable so wouldnt have said so. still got the decat in the boot after the bloke i got it off took it off for the mot. from what ive read its not a good idea to put it on without a mapp so im kinda in limbo about what to do about it.
stants Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 You need an esl board added to the ecu for it to be mapped or a standalone ecu like apexi or mines, decatted it will possibly have overboost or spiking problems, do you have a boost gauge fitted?

stants Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Savage is your man to speak to regarding the various options as he has used both esl and the apexi setups, Els boards cost about 300 new and are essentially another board inserted into the ecu to be able to map the classic impreza legacy & foz but it retains all the factory stuff as well, if you speak to esl or maybe duncan at race dynamix or andy forest they will be able to advise you on best plan of action, I was told not to drive hard on a decat with no map but i want for the sports cat route instead 1

stants Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Normally best way is to fit everything in the day of mapping then you shouldn't cause any problems, it's six of one and half dozen of the other though i've seen people with decats and no maps running fine. If you changed the air filter and decat ghats when you get more problems, they can cope with one or the other but not both, I'm in same boat as you really was quoted 650 for a board and map by the late jgm but other things have got in the way, You'll need to factor in another hundred quid for a fuel pump on top 1
Rick 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 im running a full decat and I don't get over boost lol
kingy Posted November 23, 2014 Author Posted November 23, 2014 call me stupid but what is over boost?
Jay762 Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 turbo putting out its true potential by free flowing induction and exhaust but not limited by engine management
kingy Posted November 23, 2014 Author Posted November 23, 2014 is over boost a bad thing then? sounds bad to me and i would i know if im over boosting? sorry for soundind like a newbe but its all new to me.
quit Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 If your buying a apexi make sure it's the correct pin for your car ( 3 or 4 plug )
kingy Posted November 24, 2014 Author Posted November 24, 2014 Seen a apexi on e bay for £170. Is this about thw right price for a second hand one and is it as simple as plug and play?
stants Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Is that just for ecu or does it include the handheld monitor thing ? You'll have to lift the carpet up in passenger footwell and undo the kick plate to find out what ecu pin configuration you have
quit Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Seen a apexi on e bay for £170. Is this about thw right price for a second hand one and is it as simple as plug and play? No! you need to have it mapped to your car / mods etc. Unless you have the software and map you need a specialist , Would say Derby way recommend JGM but unfortunately that's out the question now
JusNoGood Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Theres some interesting information on Duncan's site....typical upgrade paths etc http://www.racedynamix.co.uk/remap/subaru-remapping/
